ոնդոն ի Միդլսեքս համալսարանի միջազգային իրավունքի պրոֆեսոր և իրավապաշտպան Ուիլյամ Շաբասն Օսմանյան Թուրքիայում հայ ժողովրդի զանգվածային կոտորածների մասին իմացել է դեռ պատանեկության տարիներին, երբ կարդացել է Ֆրանց Վերֆելի «Մուսա լեռան 40 օրը» վեպը: «Ընդդեմ ցեղասպանության հանցագործության» խորագրով գլոբալ ֆորումի ընթացքում Շաբասը հայտարարեց, որ ինքը գիտի, որ այդ տարիներին հայ ժողովրդի հետ սարսափելի բան է տեղի ունեցել, գիտի, որ հայերը ենթարկվել են զանգվածային կոտորածների և անցել է անասելի տառապանքների միջով: «Եվ ես այդ մասին իմացել եմ ոչ թե իրավական գրքերից, այլ պատանեկության տարիներին կարդացել եմ մի հրաշալի գիրք՝ Ֆրանց Վերֆելի «Մուսա լեռան 40 օրը»: Այդ գիրքը կար իմ հոր գրադարանում: Այն ինձ հետաքրքրեց, ես կարդացի և ամբողջ կյանքում այդ գիրքը մնաց ինձ հետ: Իմ սրտի խորքում մնացել են հայ ժողովրդի տառապանքները»,- «Արմենպրես»-ի հաղորդմամբ՝ ընդգծեց նա: Իր ելույթում նա կարևորեց ցեղասպանությունների կանխարգելմանն ուղղված քայլերի իրականացման անհրաժեշտությունը՝ ընդգծելով, որ դրա լավագույն ճանապարհներից է նախկինում եղած ցեղասպանությունների միջազգային ճանաչումն ու դատապարտումը:

Ուիլյամ Շաբասը շնորհակալություն հայտնեց Հայաստանում նման ֆորում կազմակերպելու համար՝ հույս հայտնելով, որ երկօրյա քննարկումների արդյունքում հնարավոր կլինի հասկանալ, թե ինչպես կարելի է առաջ տանել ցեղասպանությունների միջազգային ճանաչման գործընթացը:
