 Միացյալ Նահանգների Հետաքննությունների դաշնային բյուրոն հետաքննություն է սկսել Ներկայացուցիչների պալատի նախկին խոսնակ Դենիս Հասթերթի դեմ՝ նրան մեղադրելով ՀԴԲ-ին ստելու և բանկային հաշվետվություններից խուսափելով համակարգված կերպով գումարներ կանխիկացնելու մեջ: Այս մասին տեղեկացնում է անգլալեզու «Մասիս փոստ» շաբաթ աթերթի էլեկտրոնային տարբերակը:

73-ամյա ամերիկացի նախկին կոնգրեսականը ներկայումս լոբբիստական գործունեություն է ծավալում Թուրքիայի համար Վաշինգթոնում: Իլինոյս նահանգի հյուսիսային շրջանի փաստաբանի ներկայացրած մեղադրական ակտում նշվում է, որ Հասթերթը վճարել է մի անհայտ անձի՝ «նախկինում այդ մարդու դեմ կատարած թերացումները թաքցնելու և փոխհատուցելու» համար: Մեղադրող կողմի համաձայն` 2010- 2014 թվականների ընթացքում ԱՄՆ նախկին օրենսդիրը այդ անձին  վճարել է  մոտ 1.7 միլիոն դոլար:

Դենիս Հասթերթը վատ համբավ ունի նաև Հայոց ցեղասպանության ճանաչման դեմ ուղղված իր գործունեությամբ: 2000 թվականի հոկտեմբերին նրա ձեռնարկած գործողությունների հետևանքով չընդունվեց Հայոց ցեղասպանության ճանաչման բանաձևը: Լինելով ԱՄՆ ներկայացուցիչների պալատի խոսնակ՝ նա խոստացել էր աջակցել բանաձևի ընդունմանը, սակայն քվերակության նախօրեին հանել էր բանաձևի քննարկումն օրակարգից` պարզաբանելով, որ նման խնդրանքով նամակ է ստացել նախագահ Բիլ Քլինթոնից,  և բանաձևը կվնասի ԱՄՆ շահերին:

2005 թվականի սեպտեմբերին «Vanity Fair» ամսագիրը բացահայտել էր, թե ինչպես է ՀԴԲ թարգմանիչ Սիբել Էդմոնդսն իր աշխատանքային գործունեության ընթացքում թուրքերեն ձայնագրություն լսել, որտեղ զրուկացիները պարծենում էին Հասթերթի հետ ունեցած իրենց կապերով: Ամսագրի հաղորդմամբ՝  ձայնագրությունից պարզ է դառնում, որ Հասթերթին տասնյակ հազարավոր դոլարներ են մուծել տեղեկատվության փոխանակման և «քաղաքական լավության» համար: Զրուցակիցներից մեկը եղել է Թուրքիայի հյուպտոսարանի պաշտոնյա, ով ձայնագրությունում պնդել է, որ Հայոց ցեղասպանության բան աձևը օրակարգից հանելու համար Հասթերթին  պետք է վճարվի առնվազն 500 հազար դոլար:

Կոնգրեսական գործունեությունից հետո Հասթերթն ամսական 35,000 դոլար է ստացել Թուրքիայի օգտին լոբբինգով զբաղվելու համար:
