Եվրոպական խաղերը հյուրընկալող Ադրբեջանում մարդու իրավունքների ոտնահարումներն ու պաշտոնական Բաքվի կողմից երկրի քաղաքացիների նկատմամբ կիրառվող ճնշումները շարունակում են մնալ միջազգային լրատվամիջոցների ուշադրության կենտրոնում: Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung օրաթերթի հունիսի 10-ի համարում տեղ է գտել հեղինակ Քրիստոֆ Բեքերի «Նախագահի մեծ շոուն» խորագրով հոդվածը, որում խոսվում է Եվրոպական խաղերին քարոզչական բնույթ տալու պաշտոնական Բաքվի ջանքերի մասին: Բաքուն այդ ուղղությամբ ահռելի գումարներ է ծախսում. խաղերի կազմակերպմանն ու անցկացմանը Ալիևը մոտ 10 միլիարդ դոլար է հատկացրել:

Բեքերը նշում է, որ խոսքի ազատության վիճակն Ադրբեջանում առավել վատ է, քան երբևէ: Հեղինակն իր այս համոզմունքը հիմնավորում է՝ պատմելով ձերբակալված մտավորականների մասին: Նա նշում է, որ ստեղծված իրավիճակը հուզում է գերմանական և եվրոպական քաղաքականությանը: Եվրոպական խորհրդարանը եկող չորեքշաբթի նախատեսված լիագումար նիստում թեման կքննարկի  Եվրոպական խորհրդի և Հանձնաժողովի հետ: Իսկ Դաշնային կառավարությունն առաջիկա օրերին պետք է պատասխանի «Ադրբեջանում աճող ռեպրեսիները» խորագրով Կանաչների հարցմանը:

Բեքերը հիշեցնում է մայիսի կեսերին Գերմանիա-Հարավային Կովկաս խորհրդարանական խմբի մի քանի անդամների, այդ թվում՝ խմբի նախագահ Կարին Շթրենցի (ՔԴՄ) Բաքու կատարած այցի մասին: Նրանց այնտեղ ընդունել է նախագահ Ալիևն անձամբ, սակայն քննադատություն բարձրացնելու առիթը պատգամավորների կողմից չի օգտագործվել: Խմբի անդամ, Կանաչների ներկայացուցիչ Թաբեա Ռյոսներն ասում է. «Նախագահի հետ հանդիպմանը խրթին թեմաները քննարկման հնարավորություն չունեցան, ինչն ինձ անչափ զայրացրեց»: Նա պատմում է, որ իրենց նախապես ասվել էր՝ հանդիպումը կարճ է լինելու, թեմաները խրթին են, և Ալիևը կբարկանա, եթե քննադատություն հնչի: Թաբեա Ռյոսներն անչափ ուրախ է, որ Ալիևի հետ հանդիպումից հետո ինքը հնարավորություն է ունեցել Բաքվում խոսել նաև քաղաքացիների հետ, ինչն իրականություն է դարձել Բաքվում Գերմանիայի դեսպանատան միջոցով: Պաշտոնական ծրագրում, ի տարբերություն Թբիլիսիի ծրագրի, քաղաքացիական հասարակության հետ հանդիպում չի նախատեսվել: Հիմնավորումը՝ օրակարգը խիստ հագեցած է: Ռյոսները, այսպիսով, հրաժարվել է պաշտոնական ծրագրի պայմանավորվածություններից մեկից, որպեսզի հանդիպի քաղաքացիական հասարակության որոշ ներկայացուցիչների հետ:
