Հուլիսին Թուրքիան եւ ԱՄՆ-ն ԻԼԻՊ-ի դեմ պայքարը խորացնելու հարցում առաջին, չնայած ոչ ամուր համաձայնությանը հասան: Անկարան ամերիկյան ինքնաթիռներին թույլ տվեց օգտագործել իր օդային տարածքն ու բազաները, այդ թվում՝ Ինջիրլիքի ռազմաբազան: Ի պատասխան, Վաշինգտոնը համաձայնեց նրան, ինչից Թուրքիան երկար էր սպասել. «անվտանգության գոտի» Սիրիայի հյուսիսում:

Չնայած այդ ազատ գոտու մանրամասները դեռեւս չեն մշակվել, որոշ վերլուծաբաններ կարծում են, որ Թուրքիայի նպատակն է՝ Սիրիայի քրդական երեք շրջաններին թույլ չտալ միավորվել, որոնք իրենն է համարում քրդական Ժողովրդավարական միություն կուսակցությունը: Այս մասին գրում է քրդական Rudaw գործակալությունը:

«Կարծում եմ՝ Թուրքիան ցանկանում է սեպ խրել, որպեսզի քրդերը չկարողանան վերահսկել ամբողջ սահմանը»,- Rudaw-ի հետ զրույցում նշել է Վաշինգտոնի ինստիտուտի վերլուծաբան Դեւիդ Փոլաքը: «Ինձ չի թվում, որ ԱՄՆ-ն մտածում է հարցի այդ կողմի մասին, բայց պատրաստ է Ինջիրլիքի դիմաց ընդունել այդ գինը»,- հավելել է նա:

Նա չի համարում, որ Վաշինգտոնի հետ համաձայնությունից հետո Թուրքիան բացահայտ պատերազմ կսկսի ԻԼԻՊ-ի դեմ՝ վախենալով պատասխան գործողություններից:

«Շատ լավ է, եթե նրանք վերահսկեն սահմանը: Բայց եթե Թուրքիայի ներսում ահաբեկչություններն ուժեղանան, ամեն ինչ կարող է փոխվել»,- հայտարարել է նա:

Ստամբուլի Հասարակական քաղաքականության եւ ժողովրդավարության ուսումնասիրության կենտրոնի (PODEM) հետազոտող Սաբիհ Սեյնունչելը կարծում է, որ եթե անգամ Թուրքիային հաջողվի Սիրիայում անվտանգության գոտի ստեղծել, միեւնույն է, պարզ չէ, թե որքան երկար կհաջողվի պահել այն:

Միաժամանակ, Թուրքիայի դիրքորոշումը կարող է փոխվել, եթե Ժողովրդավարական միություն կուսակցությունն ու Քրդական աշխատավորական կուսակցությունը դաշինք կազմեն Անկարայի հետ՝ Թուրքիային նախընտրելով տարածաշրջանի այլ դաշնակիցներից:
