Միացյալ Թագավորությունն ակնկալում Է, որ ՄԱԿ-ի հաջորդ գլխավոր քարտուղարը կին Է լինելու: Այդ մասին, ինչպես տեղեկացնում Է «Արմենպրես»-ը, ՏԱՍՍ-ին տված հարցազրույցում հայտնել Է համաշխարհային կազմակերպությանն առընթեր երկրի մշտական ներկայացուցիչ Մեթյու Ռայքրոֆթը: Ընդսմին նա նշել Է, որ ավելի կարեւոր նշանակություն կունենան թեկնածուի մասնագիտական որակները, իսկ գեղեցիկ սեռի ներկայացուցիչներին Լոնդոնը նախապատվություն կտա միայն «մյուս հավասար պայմանների դեպքում»:

«Մենք գտնում ենք, որ հավասար այլ պայմանների դեպքում եկել Է ժամանակը, որ կինը գլխավորի ՄԱԿ-ը»,-ասել Է գործակալության զրուցակիցը:

2007 թվականի հունվարի 1-ից ՄԱԿ-ի գլխավոր քարտուղարի պաշտոնն զբաղեցնող Պան Գի Մունի լիազորությունների ժամկետը լրանում Է 2016 թվականի դեկտեմբերի 31-ին: Սահմանված կանոնների համաձայն՝ նա իրավունք չունի առաջադրվելու երրորդ հնգամյա ժամկետի համար:

Նախընտրական արշավը պաշտոնապես կմեկնարկի միայն մեկ տարի հետո: Ընդ որում՝ համաշխարհային կազմակերպության ղեկավարի առավելագույն անկողմնակալության հասնելու նպատակով այդ պաշտոնն ընդունված չԷ տալ Անվտանգության խորհրդի մշտական անդամներ հանդիսացող հինգ երկրների՝ Ռուսաստանի, Չինաստանի, Մեծ Բրիտանիայի, ԱՄՆ-ի եւ Ֆրանսիայի ներկայացուցչին:

ՄԱԿ-ի ութ գլխավոր քարտուղարներից ոչ մեկը չի ներկայացրել Արեւելյան Եվրոպայի պետություն: Բացի այդ, նրանք բոլորն Էլ տղամարդիկ են եղել: Դիտորդներից շատերը կարծում են, որ դա թույլ Է տալիս ակնկալել բուլղարուհի Իրինա Բոկովայի հաջողությունը, որն այժմ զբաղեցնում Է ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ի գլխավոր տնօրենի պաշտոնը:

Գլխավոր քարտուղարի ընտրությունների ընթացակարգը նախատեսում Է, որ թեկնածուն պետք Է ստանա ՄԱԿ-ի Անվտանգության խորհրդի երաշխավորությունը, ինչից հետո հաստատման ընթացակարգ անցնի Գլխավոր ասամբլեայում: Քվեարկության ընթացքում նա պետք Է ապահովի համաշխարհային կազմակերպության անդամ 193 երկրների առնվազն երկու երրորդի աջակցությունը:
