 Թուրքիայի Ռիզե քաղաքի Հանրապետության հրապարակում, որտեղ ծնվել է այդ երկրի նախագահ Ռեջեփ Թայիփ Էրդողանը, Թուրքիայի Հանրապետության հիմնադիր Աթաթուրքի արձանը հանել եւ դրա տեղում թեյի բաժակի քանդակ են տեղադրել:

Ինչպես հաղորդում է թուրքական «Ջումհուրիեթ» թերթը, «Աթաթուրքի ժառանգության պահապաններ» հասարակական կազմակերպության բողոքին ի պատասխան, չնշելով Աթաթուրքի արձանը հանելու բուն պատճառը, Ռիզեի քաղաքապետ Ռեշաթ Քասափն ասել է, որ այն պետք է փոխադրվի «ավելի հանգիստ վայր», օրինակ` նահանգապետարանի շենքի դիմաց, որտեղ պետական արարողություններ են կատարվում:

Քասափն ասել է, որ Աթաթուրքից հետո Թուրքիան միջազգային հրապարակ հանող նախագահներից «ամենահզորը» Էրդողանն է` այդ կերպ ակնարկելով, որ հնարավոր է` որոշ ժամանակ այդ վայրում թեյի բաժակը կարող է փոխարինվել Էրդողանի արձանով:

Հետաքրքրիր է, որ Աթաթուրքի նկատմամբ Թուրքիայում արհամարհական վերաբերմունք սկսվել է դրսեւորվել Էրդողանի գլխավորած «Արդարություն եւ զարգացում» կուսակցության (ԱԶԿ) իշխանության գալուց հետո` 2002 թվականից:

Աթաթուրքի` ձիու վրա նստած արձանը հանվել եւ արդեն մեկ ամիս է` անպետք իրերի աղբանոց է նետվել նաեւ Կայսերի նահանգի (Կեսարիա) Ֆելահիե քաղաքի Հանրապետության հրապարակից: Այն տեղադրվել էր 4 տարի առաջ նախորդ քաղաքապետ, ընդդիմադիր Ժողվորդահանրապետական կուսակցության անդամ Գյուրսել Քըսըրի կողմից:

Թուրքական ԶԼՄ-ները հաճախ են գրում երկրի տարբեր շրջաններում Աթաթուրքի արձանը քանդելու, վրան ներկ լցնելու եւ Թուրքիայի Հանրապետության հիմնադրի նկատմամբ անհարգալից վերաբերմունք դրսեւորվելու փաստերի մասին:
