Բոտսվանայում կանադական Lucara Diamond ընկերությանը պատկանող Karowe հանքարանում գտել են համաշխարհային պատմության մեջ խոշորագույն ալմաստներից մեկը: Ոսկերչական որակի 1111-կարատանոց թափանցիկ քարը մեծությամբ զիջում Է միայն լեգենդար Կուլինանին, տեղեկացնում Է «Արմենպրես»-ը:

IIa տեսակի ալմաստն իր չափով (առանց ազոտի կամ բորի խառնուրդի) փոքր-ինչ զիջում Է թենիսի գնդակին: Նման գտածո չի եղել արդեն 100 տարուց ավելի:

«Ոսկերչական որակի 1000 կարատից ավելի քաշ ունեցող ավելի քան հարյուր տարվա ընթացքում գտնված ամենամեծ ալմաստի  կարեւորությունը դժվար Է գերագնահատել»,-ասել Է Lucara-ի գլխավոր տնօրեն Ուիլյամ Լեմը:

Հուլիսին Lucara-ն նույն այդ IIa տիպի, բայց զգալիորեն ավելի փոքր չափի (341,9 կարատ) ալմաստը վաճառել Է 20,6 մլն դոլարով կամ 1 կարատի դիմաց՝ 60 հազար դոլար:

Կուլինան ալմաստը, որի քաշը 3106 կարատ Է, Հարավաֆրիկյան Հանրապետությունում գտնվել Է 1905 թվականին: Նրա գնահատման արժեքը 2 մլրդ դոլար Է, բայց քարը երբեք չի դրվել աճուրդի: Կուլինանը նվիրվել Է Մեծ Բրիտանիայի Էդուարդ 7-րդ թագավորին եւ բաժանվել Է ինը խոշոր եւ 96 մանր ադամանդների: Դրանցից ամենախոշորները զետեղվել են բրիտանական թագի վրա:

Մեծությամբ երկրորդ ալմաստը երկար ժամանակ եղել Է Էկսելսիորը (995,2 կարատ), որը 1893 թվականին արդյունահանել են ներկայիս Հարավաֆրիկյան Հանրապետության տարածքում:
