Գերմանիայի կանցլեր Անգելա Մերկելը «Տարվա մարդ» Է ճանաչվել Financial Times բրիտանական գործարար թերթի վարկածով: Հրատարակությունը նշել Է, որ նման որոշման պատճառն այն վճռական դիրքն Է, որը ԳՖՀ-ի կառավարության ղեկավարը բռնեց Մերձավոր Արեւելքի երկրներից միգրանտների՝ Եվրոպան ալեկոծած հոսքի նկատմամբ, տեղեկացնում Է «Արմենպրես»-ը:

Financial Times-ը գրում Է, որ Մերկելն անսպասելիորեն խոստացավ Գերմանիայում ընդունել բոլոր այն փախստականներին, որոնք ձգտում Էին հասնել երկիր՝ նրանց ճանապարհը փակելու փոխարեն, ինչպես նրան խորհուրդ Էին տալիս պահպանողական դաշնակիցները:

«Մի քանի շաբաթվա ընթացքում Անգելա Մերկելը կերպարանափոխվեց ամբողջ աշխարհի եւ իր հայրենակից գերամանացիների աչքում»,-գրում Է Financial Times-ը: «Անցյալ դարձավ զգուշավոր կանցլերը, որը տասնամյակի ընթացքում քայլ առ քայլ առաջ Էր տանում իր երկիրը, նրա փոխարեն բոլորի առջեւ հառնեց վճռական համոզմունքների տեր քաղաքական գործիչը: Դա ուժեղ գամբիտ Էր»,-նշում Է հրատարակությունը:

«Եթե հաշվարկը ճիշտ ստացվի, դա կամրապնդի նրա՝ որպես Գերմանիայի մեծագույն կանցլերներից մեկի համբավը,-գրում Է բրիտանական թերթը:-Դեպի Եվրոպա ճանապարհ բացելով մեկ միլիոնից ավելի փախստականների, հիմնականում մուսուլմանների համար, Անգելա Մերկելը կարող Է իրենից հետո նույնպիսի երկարաժամկետ ժառանգություն թողնել, ինչպես եւ իր ուսուցիչը՝ նախկին կանցլեր Հելմուտ Կոլը, որը կառավարել Է Գերմանիայի միավորման եւ եվրո արժույթի հայտնվելու ժամանակաշրջանում»: Այդ պատճառով Էլ Financial Times-ը նրան ՝ճանաչել Է «Տարվա մարդ»:
