…Կյանքն արժեզրկել է գաղափարախոսությունը… Մենք պատկանում ենք այն սերնդին, որ կորցրել է պատրանքները, և մեզ հաճախ պակասում են երևակայությունն ու կարեկցանքը:
Հեգնանքը քննադատական մոտեցման անբաժանելի տարրն է: «Հեգնանք» բառը ես գործածում եմ այն իմաստով, որ նրանում ներդրել է ֆրանսիացի գեղանկարիչ Մարսել Դյուշանը' ինքդ քեզ կողքից նայելու և քեզ վրա ծիծաղելու ունակություն: Հեգնանքը անհատի սուբյեկտիվ հակազդումն է անիմաստ կամ հանցավոր օբյեկտիվ իրականությանը: Հեգնական մարդը ծիծաղում է իր և մյուսների վրա:
Ընդհանուր հեգնանքը ելք է սեփական «ես»-ի հետ երկխոսության շրջանակից և ծանակում սեփական «ես»-ի, որը ծիծաղում է շրջապատող իրականության վրա: Հեգնանքը կարող է դաժան լինել, իսկ ընդհանուր հեգնանքը տարրալուծում է այդ դաժանությունը:


Եթե այս հասկացությունները կիրառենք բարոյականության ու քաղաքականության ոլորտի առնչությամբ, ապա, ինձ թվում է, քաղաքագետին անհրաժեշտ է հեգնանքի որոշակի պաշարով նայել ինքն իրեն ու մյուսներին, և չլինել չափազանց ինքնավստահ, քանզի նրա մեթոդներն ու լուծումները ամենևին էլ իդեալական չեն և անսխալ լինելու երաշխիքներ չունեն. չէ՞ որ բնության մեջ բացարձակ ճշմարտություններ չկան: Իսկ ընդհանուր հեգնանքն օգնում է նրան' պահպանել կարեկցանքի ու գթասրտության զգացումը…

Մի ժամանակ իմաստուն աստվածները հպարտությունը համարում էին սատանայական մեղք: Մարդկանց մոտ այն առաջանում է բացարձակ ճշմարտության իմացությանը տիրապետելու հավակնությունից: Գիտության և փիլիսոփայության դիմակի տակ այդ արատը թունավորել է մեր հարյուրամյակը: Միակ դեղամիջոցը բարոյական այդ թույնի դեմ քննադատական վերլուծությունն է:

Երբ մարդիկ գիտակցում են, որ իրենք ամենևին էլ բացարձակ ճշմարտության կրողները չեն, որ բոլոր ճշմարտությունները' հատկապես քաղաքական, հարաբերական են, այդժամ նրանց սրտերում տեղ է գտնվում հեգնանքի ու կարեկցանքի համար' իրենց և ուրիշների հանդեպ: Մարդկանց վերադարձնել կարեկցանքի զգացումը' ահա, թե ինչ է հիմա մեզ անհրաժեշտ: Բուդդիզմի մեջ հատկապես գրավում է այն, որ բուդդայական իմաստունները միշտ ժպտում են: Նրանց ժպիտում հեգնանք ու կարեկցանք կա: Քաղաքագետները նրանցից սովորելու բան ունեն:
