Լայզա Մինելլին օգնել է ձեռք բերել Հայաստանի դեսպանության շենքը

Վաշինգտոնում Հայաստանի դեսպանության շենքը մեր երկրի սահմաններից դուրս առաջին պետական սեփականություն հանդիսացող շինություններից մեկն է։ Չնայած մեր դիվանագիտական առաքելությունը Վաշինգտոնում գործում էր 1993 թվականից, սակայն դեսպանությունը շենք չուներ և տեղակայված էր հայկական կազմակերպություններից մեկի շենքում։ 1995 թվականին Հայաստանի կառավարությունը չէր կարող իրեն թույլ տալ 2.3 միլիոն դոլար արժողությամբ առանձնատուն ձեռք բերել Վաշինգտոնում, իսկ հայ համայնքը չէր կարող իրեն թույլ տալ, որ Հայաստանի դեսպանությունը ԱՄՆ-ում չունենար իր սեփական շենքը: Ինչպես ընդունված է նման դեպքերում, հայ համայնքը դրամահավաք կազմակերպեց՝ դեսպանությանը օգնելու նպատակով։ 

Վաշինգտոնի սրտում՝ «R Street»-ի վրա, մյուս դեսպանությունների կողքին գտնվող՝ 1909 թվականին կառուցված մի առանձնատուն ընտրվեց, որը պետք է ծառայեր որպես մեր դիվանագիտական ներկայացուցչություն: Շենքը հիմնանորոգման և կահավորման անհրաժեշտություն ուներ և դա էլ իր հերթին շուրջ մեկ միլիոն դոլար կարժենար։

Կազմակերպված դրամահավաքին՝ գալա-ընդունելությանը մասնակցեցին ոչ միայն ամերիկաբնակ, այլ նաև ուրիշ պետություններում բնակվող մեր հայրենակիցները։ Հյուրերի թվում էր նաև Շարլ Ազնավուրը, սակայն Ազնավուրը միայնակ չէր եկել։ Շանսոնյեին ուղեկցում էր իր վաղեմի բարեկամ, լեգենդար երգչուհի և դերասանուհի Լայզա Մինելլին, ում հետ Ազնավուրը նախօրեին համերգ էր տվել: Սա, իհարկե, բոլորի համար անսպասելի, բայց չափազանց հաճելի անակնկալ էր։ Լայզա Մինելլին ոչ միայն կլորիկ գումար նվիրաբերեց դեսպանությանը, այլև շատ ակտիվ մասնակցեց ամբողջ երեկույթին։ Հաշված ժամերի ընթացքում պատկառելի գումար հավաքվեց, որն ամբողջությամբ ուղղվեց դեսպանության կարիքները հոգալուն։ Ամիսներ անց ՀՀ դեպսնությունը բացեց իր դռները` հիմնովին կահավորված, հարդարված և ներկայանալի:
Ցավոք այս պատմական իրադարձությունից շատ քիչ լուսանկարներ են պահպանվել, սակայն դրանք հայթայթելու դեպքում անպայման կհրապարակեմ։
