Մարտի 20-ին, Գրինվիչի ժամանակով 11:02, Արեգակը երկնքի հարավային կիսագնդից անցավ հյուսիսային կիսագունդ, ինչն էլ աստղագիտական գարնան սկիզբն է: Այդ պահին Արեգակը գտնվում էր Երկրի հասարակածի հարթության մեջ, և քանի որ Արեգակը կետ չէ, այլ նրա սկավառակը չափեր ունի, ապա նրա անցումը հասարակածով տևում է մոտ 33 ժամ: Այդ օրը կոչվում է գարնանային գիշերահավասարի օր, այսինքն գիշերվա և ցերեկվա տևողությունները հավասարվում են:Նշենք, որ խոսքն Արեգակի` հորիզոնից բարձր և ցածր գտնվելու տևողության մասին է, իսկ իրականում օրվա լուսավոր մասն ավելի երկար կլինի, քանի որ գումարվում են նաև առավոտյան և երեկոյան մթնշաղի ժամերը: Ընդհանրապես տարվա եղանակների պատճառը Երկրի հասարակածի հարթության թեքվածությունն է Երկրի` Արեգակի շուրջ պտտման ուղեծրի հարթության նկատմամբ (23.4 աստիճան): Այդ փոփոխության պատճառը Երկրի պրեցեսիան է. նրա պտտման առանցքը ժամանակի ընթացքում տեղաշարժվում է և մոտ 26000 տարում մեկ լրիվ պտույտ է կատարում: Այստեղից, մոտ 70 տարին մեկ այդ կետը տեղաշարժվում է մեկ օրով դեպի առաջ: Աստղագետները գարնանային գիշերահավասարի կետի հետ են կապում երկնային հասարակածային կոորդինատների հաշվանքի համակարգը. այդ կետից է սկսվում կոորդինատներից մեկի` ուղղակի ծագման, հաշվարկը: Գարնանային գիշերահավասարի օրը որոշ իսլամական երկրներում (մասնավորապես Իրանում) համարվում է նոր տարվա սկիզբը (Նովրուզ), որն ի դեպ ծագում է դեռ զրադաշտական կրոնի ժամանակներից և շուրջ 3000 տարվա պատմություն ունի: Հիշեցնենք, որ մեր մոտ ամենասիրված եկեղեցական շարժական տոներից մեկի` Զատիկի, օրվա հաշվարկն էլ կապված է գարնանային գիշերահավասարի օրվա հետ: Այսպես, ամեն տարի Զատիկի օրը գարնանային գիշերահավասարից հետո առաջին լիալուսնից հետո եկող առաջին կիրակին է, և այս տարի կնշվի մարտի 27-ին:
