Եկեղեցիները պետականացնելով` թուրքական իշխանությունները փորձում են վերահսկել տարբեր անձանց քրիստոնեական ինքնությանը վերադառնալու գործընթացը: Այս մասին«Արմենպրես»-ի հետ զրույցում նշեց թուրքագետ Ռուբեն Մելքոնյանը` մեկնաբանելով թուրքական իշխանությունների` Դիարբեքիրում եկեղեցիներով առկա տարածքների պետականացման մասին որոշումը: «Թուրքիայում տեղի է ունենում իշխանության առավել կենտրոնացում, նկատվում է բռնապետական տարրերի ակտիվացում: Եվ բնական է, որ պետք է դա տարածվեր նաև ազգային փոքրամասնությունների ու նրանց տարբեր իրավունքների վրա: Դրանցից է կրոնական ազատության մասին իրավունքը, որն ամրագրված է Լոզանի պայմանագրով: Թուրքական իշխանությունների այդ որոշումը  ինչ-որ տեղ խոչընդոտում է Լոզանի պայմանագրով փոքրամասնություններին տրված իրավունքները»,-ասաց Ռուբեն Մելքոնյանը:

Ռուբեն Մելքոնյանը նկատեց, որ Արևմտյան Հայաստանի տարածքում գործող շատ քիչ եկեղեցիներ կան և դրանցից է Սուրբ Կիրակոս եկեղեցին: Ըստ նրա` Սուրբ Կիրակոս եկեղեցին ակտիվություն էր մտցրել տեղի և հարակից շրջանի բնակիչների մոտ:

«Դա առիթ էր դարձել, որ հայկական ծագում ունեցող տարբեր մարդիկ փորձեն վերագտնել իրենց ինքնությունը, վերադառնալ քրիստոնեական արմատներին: Պետականացնելով եկեղեցիները, փաստորեն, Թուրքիայի իշխանություններն իրենց հսկողության տակ են վերցնում այդ գործունեությունը: Դա ենթադրում է, որ նաև որոշակիորեն կաշկանդելու է քրիստոնեական ինքնությանը վերադառնալու  գործընթացին: Սա Թուրքիայի հերթական հակաիրավական քայլերից մեկն է, որն իր հետ որոշակի զարգացում կբերի, մանավանդ որ այս խնդիրը հետզհետե դառնում է քաղաքացիական հասարակության և անկախ իրավաբանների օրակարգային հարց»,-ասաց Ռուբեն Մելքոնյանը:

Դիարբեքիրի Սուր գավառում թուրքական ռազմական ուժերի կողմից իրականացվող գործողություններին զուգահեռ Թուրքիայի Նախարարների խորհուրդը Սուրի տարբեր թաղամասերում բազմաթիվ շենքերի ու տարածքների անհապաղ օտարման մասին որոշում է կայացրել: Օտարման ենթարկված կառույցների թվում է նաև Միջին Արևելքի ամենամեծ հայկական եկեղեցին՝ Սուրբ Կիրակոսը։ Խորհրդի նույն որոշմամբ օտարման են ենթարկվում նաև Դիարբեքիրի ասորական, քաղդեական և բողոքական եկեղեցիները:
