Մոնակոյի թագավորության Մոնտե Կառլո քաղաքում ապրիլի 10-ից մեկնարկած թենիսի «ATP World Tour Masters 1000»-ի կազմի մեջ մտնող «Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters» մրցաշարում հանրահայտ շվեյցարացի թենիսիստը չի կարողացել դուրս գալ կիսաեզրափակիչ՝ անակնկալ պարտություն կրելով: 

Չափազանց խոշոր, գրեթե 4.1 մլն եվրո մրցանակային ֆոնդ ունեցող մրցաշարի քառորդ եզրափակչում Ռոժեր Ֆեդերերը զիջել է Ֆրանսիայի ներկայացուցիչ Ժո-Վիլֆրեդ Ցոնգային:

Չնայած առաջին սեթում Ֆեդերերին հաջողվել է առավելության հասնել 6:3 հաշվով, սակայն հաջորդ երկու սեթերում ֆրանսիացին ավելի ուժեղ է գտնվել՝ հաղթելով նախ 6:2, ապա նաև 7:5 հաշվով: Մոնտե Կառլոյի մրցաշարի կիսաեզրափակիչ փուլում հանդեսա կգան հիմնական առաջատար թենիսիստները, այդ թվում՝ աշխարհի 2-րդ ռակետ բրիտանացի Էնդի Մարեյը, ով քառորդ եզրափակչում հաղթել է Կանադայի ներկայացուցիչ Միլոշ Ռաոնիչին:

Քառորդ եզրափակչի ամենահետաքրքիր զույգը կազմել էին 4-րդ ռակետ Ստեն Վավրինկան և 5-րդ ռակետ Ռաֆայել Նադալը: Անվանի թենիսիստների պայքարում հաջողությունն ուղեկցել է Նադալին: Կիսաեզրափակիչ է դուրս եկել նաև ֆրանսիացի Գայել Մոնֆիսը:

Կիսաեզրափակչում երկու ֆրանսիացիները կմրցեն միմյանց դեմ, իսկ եզրափակչի մյուս ուղեգիրն ապրիլի 16-ին կվիճարկեն Նադալն ու Մարեյը: Զուգապայքարում ևս ապրիլի 16-ին սպասվում են կիսաեզրափակչի հանդիպումներ: Այստեղ հաղթողի հիմնական հավակնորդը Ռաֆայել Նադալ-Ֆերնանդո Վերդասկո զույգին պայքարից դուրս մղած ֆրանսիական տանդեմն է՝ Պյեր-Հյու Հելբեր-Նիկոլա Մահու զույգը, չնայած վատ շանսեր չունի նաև Բրունո Սոարես-Էնդի Մարեյ զույգը:
