Մամուլի ազատության համաշխարհային օրվա կապակցությամբ Միավորված ազգերի կազմակերպության գլխավոր քարտուղար Բան Կի-մունը հայտարարություն է տարածել: Այս մասին  տեղեկացրին ՄԱԿ-ի հայաստանյան գրասենյակից:

Հայտարարության մեջ ասվում է. «Մարդու իրավունքները, ժողովրդավարական հասարակությունները և կայուն զարգացումը կախված են տեղեկատվության ազատ հոսքից: Իսկ տեղեկատվության իրավունքը պայմանավորված է մամուլի ազատությամբ: Ամեն տարի մենք նշում ենք Մամուլի ազատության համաշխարհային օրը` ընդգծելու դրա հիմնարար սկզբունքները, պաշտպանելու մամուլի ազատությունը և հարգանքի տուրք մատուցելու լրատվամիջոցների այն աշխատողներին, ովքեր վտանգի են ենթարկում իրենց և նրանց, ովքեր զրկվել են կյանքից իրենց մասնագիտական պարտականությունների կատարման ընթացքում:

Այս տարի Մամուլի ազատության համաշխարհային օրը համընկնում է երեք հիմնաքարային իրադարձությունների հետ: Այս տարի լրանում են տեղեկատվության ազատության վերաբերյալ աշխարհում առաջին օրենքի 250 ամյակը, որը կիրառելի է ներկայիս Շվեդիայում և Ֆինլանդիայում, և մամուլի ազատության սկզբունքների վերաբեյալ վինդհոուկյան հռչակագրի ընդունման 25 ամյակը: Եվ վերջապես, 2016 թվականը խորհրդանշում է նաև Կայուն զարգացման նպատակների իրագործման մեկնարկը:

Մամուլի ազատությունը և տեղեկատվական ազատ հոսքը անհրաժեշտ են ոչ միայն քաղաքացիներին իրազեկելու Կայուն զարգացման նպատակների մասին, այլև նրանց հնարավորություն տալու վերահսկել, որպեսզի իրենց պետության ղեկավարները հաշվետու լինեն իրենց իսկ տված խոստումների կատարման համար: Զանգվածային լրատվամիջոցները, այդ թվում`առավելապես նոր առցանց լրատվամիջոցները, մեր աչքերն ու ականջներն են։ Մենք բոլորս օգտվում ենք նրանց տրամադրած տեղեկատվությունից:

Ազատ, անկախ և անվտանգ լրատվական միջավայրը էական նշանակություն ունի: Այդուհանդերձ, շատ հաճախ լրագրողներին սպառնում, անհանգստացնում, խանգարում կամ նույնիսկ սպանում են տեղեկատվության որոնման գործընթացում: Շատերը տառապում են կալանավայրում, ոմանք` անգամ սարսափելի պայմաններում, կառավարման ձախողումների, կորպորատիվ իրավախախտումների կամ հասարակական խնդիրների լուսաբանման հետևանքով:

Ես անչափ մտահոգված եմ բազմաթիվ երկրներում լրատվամիջոցների աշխատողների համար գնալով ավելի ու ավելի սահմանափակ պայմաններ ստեղծող միջավայրով: Արտահայտվելու ազատության սահմանափակումները արգելափակում են հենց առաջընթացը: Մամուլի ազատության համաշխարհային այս օրը ես կոչ եմ անում բոլոր կառավարություններին, քաղաքական գործիչներին, գործարարներին ու քաղաքացիներին խրախուսել և պաշտպանել ազատ ու անկախ լրատվամիջոցների գործունեությունը: Առանց այս հիմնարար իրավունքի մարդիկ պակաս ազատ են ու ավելի քիչ հնարավորություններ ունեն: Մամուլի ազատության իրավունքի առկայության պայմաններում մենք կարող ենք միասին աշխատել` ստեղծելու արժանապատիվ աշխարհ, որտեղ բոլորն օժտված են հավասար հնարավորություններով»:
