ԽՍՀՄ հանցագործություններից..
1939թ. Օգոստոսի սկզբին Մոսկվա է ժամանում ֆրանս-անգլիական պատվիրակությունը: Բանակցությունների նպատակը Հիտլերի դեմ կազմակերպվելիք միասնական պայքարն էր: Ընդհանրապես պատերազմի նախօրյակին Եվրոպայում ձևավորված երկու ռազմաքաղաքական միավորների համար կարևոր էր Կրեմլի դիրքորոշումը: Մոսկվան այդ շրջանում չէր շտապում դիրքորոշում հայտնել և փորձում էր առավելագույն օգուտները քաղել այդ իրավիճակից: Այնուամենայնիվ, կրեմլը հայտարարեց, որ պատրաստ է միանալ վերջիններիս եթե իրեն իրեն թույլ տրվի բոլշևիզացնել Արևելյան եվրոպան:

Այդ պայմանը, բնականաբար, մերժվեց, քանի որ աշխարհը արդեն ծանոթ էր «Կարմիր տեռորի» սարսափներին: Երկրորդ համաշխարհային պատերազմից օրեր առաջ՝ 1939 թ. օգոստոսի 23-ին Մոսկվա է ժամանում Գերմանիայի արտգործնախարար Ռիբենտրոպը, որի հետ ԽՍՀՄ արտգործնախարար Մոլոտովը «Չհարձակման» պայմանագիր է ստորագրում: Պատմության մեջ այդ համաձայնագիրը հայտնի է «Մոլոտով-Ռիբենտրոպ Պակտ»: Համաձայնագրի գաղտնի մասում կողմերը պայմանավորվածություններ ձեռք բերեցին և ազդեցության գոտիների բաժանում կատարեցին: Սովետական միությունը համաձայնվել էր չխանգարել Գերմանիային հարձակվել Լեհաստանի վրա և կիսել այն իր հետ: Մերձբալթյան երկրները, Բեսարաբիան Ֆինլանդիան իրենց հերթին հայտնվելու էին Կրեմլի ազդեցության գոտում: Այս ամենի շնորհիվ Հիտլերը երաշխիք ստացավ, որ արևելքից իր վրա չեն հարձակվելու: Այսպիսով, Գերմանիան և Սովետական միությունը դառնում էին ստրատեգիական դաշնակիցներ:

Երկու տոտալիտար միությունների միջև կնքած պակտը գործնականում սանձազերծեց աշխարհամարտը: 1939թ. սեպտեմբերի 1-ին Նացիստական Գերմանիան, համաձայն օգոստոսի 23-ին Մոսկվայում կնքված Մոլոտով-Ռիբենտրոպ պակտի, հարձակվեց Լեհաստանի վրա: Սեպտեմբերի 1-ին' առավոտյան 04:30-ին, գերմանական Լինքորի կողմից լեհական Գդանսկի (Դանցիգ) նավահանգիստը ռմբակոծելով՝ սկսվեց Երկրորդ համաշխարհային պատերազմը: Մի քանի շաբաթ անց գերմանական կողմի հետ պայմանավորվածության համաձայն արևելքից Լեհաստանի վրա հարձակվեց ԽՍՀՄ-ը:
