Տարեսկզբից 191 հազարից ավելի միգրանտներ ու փախստականներ են հատել Միջերկրական ծովը՝ նպատակ ունենալով ապաստան գտնել Եվրոպայում: Այդ մասին, ինչպես տեղեկացնում Է «Արմենպրես»-ը, մայիսի 24-ին հայտնել Է Միգրացիայի միջազգային կազմակերպության (ՄՄԿ) պաշտոնական ներկայացուցիչ Ջոել Միլմանը:

ՄՄԿ-ի տվյալների համաձայն՝ 2016 թվականի սկզբից մինչեւ մայիսի 21-ը ծովով Եվրոպա Է ժամանել 191 հազար 134 մարդ: Դրա հետ մեկտեղ 1370 մարդ զոհվել կամ անհետ կորել են»:

Միլմանի խոսքով՝ Եվրոպա հասնելու փորձ կատարելիս փախստականների մահվան դեպքերի թվաքանակն անցյալ տարվա համեմատությամբ նվազել Է գրեթե 25 տոկոսով: 2015 թվականի նույն այդ ժամանակաշրջանի համեմատությամբ Միջերկրական ծովում զոհվել կամ անհետ կորել Է 1828 մարդ: Նրա խոսքով՝ մարդկանց զոհվելու դեպքերի նվազումը «բացատրվում Է Թուրքիայից Հունաստան ժամանումների կտրուկ անկումով»:

Մասնավորապես, մայիսին Միջերկրական ծովում 13 մարդ Է զոհվել այն դեպքում, երբ անցյալ տարի այդ թիվը կազմել Է 95 մարդ, իսկ 2014 թվականին՝ 330 մարդ, հաղորդել Է ՌԻԱ Նովոստին:
