«Բոլոր նրանց, ովքեր վախ են զգում, խորհուրդ եմ տալիս, եթե կա հնարավորություն, պարզապես անձամբ ծանոթանալ այն մարդու հետ, որը փախել Է մեզ մոտ: Նրանք դժվարություններ տեսած ու տառապած մարդիկ են, եւ որոնք, մեզ նման, ունեն իրենց խնդիրներն ու հույսերը»,-ասել Է Մերկելը BUNTE շաբաթահանդեսին տված հարցազրույցում, որից հունիսի 1-ին հատվածներ են հրապարակվել հրատարակության կայքում:

«Իհարկե, մենք Եվրոպայում չափազանց ուշ բացեցինք մեր աչքերն այն բանի առջեւ, թե որքան անտանելի Էր դարձել իրադրությունը փախստականների ծագման երկրներում կամ նրանց հայրենիքի մոտերքում, այնպես որ այդ մարդիկ ուրիշ ելք չեն ունեցել, քան իրենց ճակատագիրը անօրինական փոխադրողներին եւ մաքսանենգներին հանձնելը»,-հավելել Է Մերկելը, խոստանալով «ապագայում ավելի ակտիվ պայքարել փախուստի պատճառների դեմ, մասնավորապես, փորձել ուրիշ երկրների հետ պատերազմների խաղաղ լուծումներ գտնել, պայքարել սովի եւ աղքատության դեմ, ավելին անել կլիմայի պաշտպանու թյան համար»:

Մերկելի խոսքով՝ «պետական բոլոր սոցիալական ծրագրերը կշարունակվեն» բնակչության համապատասխան խմբերի համար, չնայած զգալի թվով միգրանտների ժամանմանը, ինչը կապված Է «բազմաթիվ խնդիրների հետ, բայց նաեւ մեծ հնարավորություններ Է ստեղծում», հաղորդել Է ՌԻԱ Նովոստին:
