Միջնադարյան Հայաստանի  Անի մայրաքաղաքն ընդգրկվել է ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ի համաշխարհային մշակութային ժառանգության ցանկում:

Ինչպես հաղորդում է ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ի պաշտոնական կայքը, այս մասին որոշումը կայացվել է ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ի Մշակութային ժառանգության կոմիտեի 40-րդ նիստում: 

ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ի պաշտոնական կայքում տեղադրված նկարագրության մեջ Անին ներկայացված է որպես հայերի կողմից հիմնադրված քաղաք: Մասնավորապես, ասվում է, որ չնայած Անի քաղաքի հիմնադրման վերաբերյալ շատ քիչ տեղեկություններ կան, այնուամենայնիվ, հայտնի է, որ քաղաքը բնակեցվել է ուրարտական ժամանակաշրջանում` մ.թ.ա առաջին հազարամյակի առաջին կեսին: 

«Անին առանձնահատուկ վերելք է ապրել Հայոց Բագրատունիների արքայատոհմի ժամանակաշրջանում:  Չնայած Աշոտ Բագրատունու օրոք երկրի մայրաքաղաքը Կարսն էր, Աշոտ Երրորդը 961 թվականին  Անին հռչակեց որպես  Հայաստանի մայրաքաղաք: Իր նոր կարգավիճակով  քաղաքն ընդարձակվեց` ամրոցից վերածվելով թագավորական  նստավայրի: 10-11-րդ դարերում Գագիկ Առաջինի գահակալության տարիներին քաղաքն աննկարագրելիորեն բարգավաճում է` դառնալով մշակութային, կրոնական, տնտեսական կարեւոր կենտրոն: Հենց այս ժամանակահատվածում է, որ հանրահայտ Տրդատ ճարտարապետը կառուցու մ է Անիի Մայր տաճարը եւ Սուրբ Գրիգոր դամբարան-եկեղեցին»,- ասված է կայքում:

Կայքում նաև նշվում է, որ հայոց արքա Գագիկ Առաջինի գահակալությունից հետո քաղաք են ներխուժել վրացիները, արաբները եւ բյուզանդացիները:  1045 թվականին բյուզանդացիները գրավում են քաղաքն, իսկ 1064 թվականին այն նվաճում են սելջուկ թուրքերը:  

«Անիի տարածքում բազում եկեղեցիների առկայության պատճառով այն ստացել է «1001 եկեղեցիների քաղաք» անվանումը: Եկեղեցիներից շատերը կառուցվել են 12-13-րդ դարերում: Սկիզբ առնելով դեռեւս 989 թվականին Սմբատ Բագրատունու գահակալության օրոք` Անիի Սուրբ Աստվածածին Կաթողիկե եկեղեցու շինարարությունը ավարտին հասցվեց 1001 թվականին Սմբատ Բագրատունու հետնորդներից` Գագիկ Առաջինի կնոջ Կատրամիդե թագուհու շնորհիվ»,- նշվում է ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ի պաշտոնական կայքում:   

ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ի Մշակութային ժառանգության կոմիտեի 40-րդ նիստն անցկացվում է Ստամբուլում: Կոմիտեի նախագահ, Թուրքիայի արտգործնախարարության մշակույթի եւ զբոսաշրջության գծով գլխավոր ղեկավար, դեսպան Լալե Ուլկերի գլխավորությամբ հանձնաժողովի անդամներն ուսումնասիրել են տարբեր երկրների կողմից ներկայացված բազմաթիվ հայտեր, որոնցից մեկը ներկայացրել է հենց Թուրքիան`ցանկանալով ներառել հայկական Անի քաղաքը ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ի մշակութային ժառանգության ցանկում:
