ՄԱԿ-ի որոշմամբ ամեն տարի օգոստոսի 19-ը նշվում է որպես Մարդասիրության համաշխարհային օր:

ՄԱԿ-ի գլխավոր քարտուղար Պան Գի Մունը իր ուղերձն է հղել հանրությանը.

«Ըստ վիճակագրական տվյալների, այսօր 130 միլիոն մարդ գոյատևում է հատկացվող մարդասիրական օգնության շնորհիվ: Եթե բոլոր կարիքավոր մարդկանց միասին վերցնենք, ապա նրանք կկազմեն տասներորդ ամենաբազմամարդ ազգը երկրի վրա: Այս թվերն իսկապես ապշեցուցիչ են, սակայն ներկայացնում են ընդհանուր պատկերի միայն մի փոքր մասը: Այս վիճակագրության հետևում կանգնած են անհատներ, ընտանիքներ և համայնքներ, որոնց կյանքն ամբողջությամբ խարխլված է: Նրանք նույնպիսի մարդիկ են, ինչպես և դուք ու ես. երեխաներ, կանայք, տղամարդիկ, որոնք ամեն օր բախվում են ծանր խնդիրների լուծմանը:

Նրանք ծնողներ են, որ պետք է ընտրեն, թե ինչ գնեն երեխաների համար առաջին հերթին, ուտելի՞ք, թե դեղորայք: Նրանք երեխաներ են, որ պետք է ընտրեն դպրո՞ց գնալ, թե՞ ընտանիքին օգնելու համար գնալ աշխատանքի. ընտանիքներ են, որոնք ռմբակոծության ժամանակ կամ պետք է ռիսկի ենթարկելով իրենց կյանքը մնան տանը, կամ դիմեն վտանգավոր փախուստի ծովով: Այսօր մենք չունենք պարզ ու արագ լուծումներ՝  վերացնելու այն ճգնաժամային պայմանները, որ մարդկանց գցել են նման ծանր իրավիճակի մեջ: Բայց կան բաներ, որ մենք բոլորս կարող ենք անել այսօր և ամեն օր: Մենք կարող ենք ցուցաբերել կարեկցանք, մենք կարող ենք բարձրացնել մեր ձայնը անարդարության դեմ և մենք կարող ենք աշխատել հանուն փոփոխության: Մարդասիրության համաշխարհային օրը ամենամյա հիշեցում է, որ պետք է գործել հանուն տառապանքների մեղմացման: Սա նաև առիթ է ըստ արժանվույն գնահատելու այն աշխատանքը, որ իրականացնում են մարդասիրական ոլորտի աշխատողներն ու կամավորները ճգնաժամերի դեմ պայքարի առաջնագծում:

Ես հարգանքի տուրք եմ մատուցում բոլոր այն նվիրյալ կանանց և տղամարդկանց, ովքեր վտանգելով իրենց կյանքը օգնում են նրանց, ում կյանքին ավելի մեծ վտանգ է սպառնում: Այսօր ես կոչ եմ անում բոլորին միանալ Միավորված Ազգերի Կազմակերպության կողմից իրականացվող «Աշխարհ, որ կնախընտրեիք ունենալ» քարոզարշավին:

Ի լրումն նրան, որ այս քարոզարշավն ուղղված է իրազեկության բարձրացմանն ու կարեկցանքի առաջացմանը, այն ունի նաև կոնկրետ նպատակ` հայթայթել գումարներ ՄԱԿ-ի արտակարգ իրավիճակների արձագանքման կենտրոնական հիմնադրամի համար և աջակցություն ցուցաբերած բոլոր անհատներին գրանցել որպես «մարդասիրության սուրհանդակներ»: Մենք բոլորս պետք է պահանջենք մեր հասարակություններից և կառավարություններից մարդասիրությունը դասել ամեն ինչից վեր»,- նշել է Պան Գի Մունը:
