Երկրատև հիվանդությունից հետո 97 տարեկանում մահացել է Գերմանիայի Դաշնային Հանրապետության նախկին նախագահ Վալտեր Շելը: Վկայակոչելով Interfax-ը:

Շելը ծնվել է 1919 թվականին Զոլինգենե քաղաքում, 1938 թվականին ծառայել է նացիստական Գերմանիայի ռազմաօդային ուժերում, ծառայել մինչ ավագ լեյտենանտի կոչումը:

1960-ականներին Շելը զբաղեցրել է Տնտեսական համագործակցության նախարարի, իսկ 1969-1974թթ. ԳԴՀ-ի ԱԳՆ և փոխկանցլերի պաշտոնները: 1974-1979 թթ. նա եղել է Գերմանիայի նախագահը:

Շելը Վիլի Բրանդտի հետ համարվում է նոր «արևելյան քաղաքականության» հայրը, ինչը հիմք հանդիսացավ Գերմանիայի Դաշնային և Գերմանիայի Դեմոկրատական հանրապետությունների միավորման համար:
