Что это? Настоящая любовь? Или просто безумие? Карл Танцлер родился в Германии в 1877 году. Он полюбил женщину и оставался верен ей даже спустя годы после ее смерти. Красиво? Не совсем, учитывая, что именно он сделал.

В 1930 году Танцлер работал техником в военном госпитале во Флориде, США. Сам себя он называл графом фон Козелем. В госпитале он и встретил 21-летнюю Елену де Хойос, американку кубинского происхождения.

Танцлер позже утверждал, что у него были сны, в которых он видел девушку еще до встречи с ней. Уже во сне он до безумия полюбил ее. Юная Елена была замужем, и ей был совершенно неинтересен 53-летний поклонник. Тот же заваливал ее подарками, пытаясь завоевать сердце юной красавицы.

Когда в 1931 году Елена заболела туберкулезом, Танцлер сделал все, что мог, чтобы спасти любимую. Он не был врачом, но потратил все свои сбережения на ее лечение. Однако этого было недостаточно. Елена скончалась 25 октября 1931 года. Танцлер был вне себя от горя. Он оплатил все расходы на похороны и убедил семью женщины похоронить ее в мавзолее.

Но тут начинается самое жуткое. Через два года после смерти Елены Карл Танцлер явился на кладбище ночью и выкопал останки возлюбленной. Позже он утверждал, что она явилась к нему во сне и умоляла об этом.

Дома он вставил ей в глазницы стеклянные глаза, использовал пряжу и металлические плечики для одежды, чтобы придать останкам подобие человеческого тела. Затем он обернул "Елену" шелком и смазал его воском, чтобы придать ему сходство с человеческой кожей.

Чтобы отбить кошмарный запах, он использовал огромное количество химикатов и духов. После этого он положил тело в свою постель.

Семь лет, до 1940 года Карл Танцлер не расставался с возлюбленной. Каждую ночь он спал рядом с ней. Лишь семь лет спустя семья женщины обнаружила, что ее захоронение было разрушено. Сестра Елены пришла к Танцлеру за разъяснениями и в ужасе обнаружила тело мертвой сестры в его постели.

Пожилой мужчина был арестован, а история его безумной любви быстро разлетелась по миру.

Суд признал Карла Танцлера виновным в разрушении захоронения и вандализме. Однако мужчина был освобожден от ответственности в связи с истечением сроков давности и вскоре вышел на свободу.

Он переехал в другой город и зажил тихой, неприметной жизнью. Однако он никогда не забывал о своей любви: весь его дом был наполнен изображениями Елены, и даже в момент своей смерти в 1952 году Танцлер прижимал к груди ее портрет.

Эта история по сей день вызывает много споров. Кто-то всерьез считает ее эталоном безграничной любви, другие - особенно мерзким примером психического расстройства. Многие девушки мечтают встретить мужчину, который будет от них без ума. Но история Карла Танцлера - прекрасное доказательство тому, что всем нам стоит быть осторожнее в своих желаниях.
