Բջջային հեռախոսների գաղտնալսումը կատարվում է հատուկ սարքավորումների միջոցով, որոնք կեղծում են բջջային աշտարակները, կամ այլ կերպ ասած, իրենց ձևացնում են որպես բջջային աշտարակ: Մոտակայքում գտնվող բոլոր բջջային հեռախոսները սկսում են ինֆորմացիա փոխանակել կեղծ աշտարակի հետ, և այդպես բոլոր զանգերը լսվում և ձայնագրվում են, SMS հաղորդագրությունները նույնպես կարդացվում են: Բացի անհատական զանգերի գաղտնալսումից այս սարքավորումները հեշտությամբ կարող են գրանցել, օրինակի համար՝ թե ովքեր են գտնվում մոտակա հրապարակի տարածքում:
 
Այդ սարքավորումներից ամենատարածվածը ամերիկյան Harris ընկերության կողմից արտադրվող StingRay կոչվող սարքավորումն է, որը լայնորեն օգտագործվում է ԱՄՆ զինված ուժերի կողմից ահաբեկչության դեմ պայքարում, ինչպես նաև FBI-ի կողմից գաղտնալսումներ կատարելու համար՝ նույնպես ահաբեկչության դեմ պայքարում, և ենթադրվում է որ ոչ միայն դրանում: Վերջերս պարզվել է, որ նույնիսկ ԱՄՆ ոստիկանությունն է այն օգտագործում անօրինաբար գաղտնալսումներ իրականացնելու համար, որոնք կապ չունեն ահաբեկչության հետ և եղել են ապօրինի գաղտնալսումներ և ձերբակալություններ:
 
Այսպիսի սարքավորումները ամենահեշտը գործում են 2G ցանցերում, և մի փոքր ավելի դժվարությամբ 3G ցանցերում: 4G ցանցերն առայժմս պաշտպանված են: Բայց նույնիսկ եթե ձեր հեռախոսը գործում է 4G ռեժիմով, StingRay-ը փոխում է այն 2G և գաղտնալսում: StingRay սարքավորումը արժե մոտավորապես 400 000 ԱՄՆ դոլար:
 
Սակայն վերջին տարիներին բջջային տեխնոլոգիաների զարգացման շնորհիվ հնարավոր է դարձել պատրաստել նմանատիպ աշտարակ կեղծող սարքավորումներ շատ ավելի էժան գնով: Շուկայում են հայտնվել 1500 - 2000 ԱՄՆ դոլար արժողությամբ սարքավորումներ, որոնք կատարում են նույն ֆունկցիաները: Սա շատ վտանգավոր հանգամանանք է, քանի որ այժմ ամեն ոք կարող է գնել այդ սարքավորումը և լսել, օրինակ՝ իր հարևանների հեռախոսազանգերը: Այս հարցը անհանգստացնում է ամերիկյան քաղաքացիական իրավունքներով զբաղվող մարմիններին, որտեղ առաջատարներից մեկը հայազգի Քրիստոֆեր Սողոյանն է:
 
ԱՐԴՅՈ՞Ք ՀՀ ԻՇԽԱՆՈՒԹՅՈՒՆՆԵՐԸ ԳԱՂՏՆԱԼՍՈՒՄ ԵՆ ՀՀ ՔԱՂԱՔԱՑԻՆԵՐԻ, ԸՆԴԴԻՄԱԴԻՐՆԵՐԻ ՀԵՌԱԽՈՍԱԶԱՆԳԵՐԸ
 
Չնայած այդ մասին փաստեր չկան, և դա բնական է, բայց բնական է նաև ենթադրելը, որ ՀՀ իշխանությունները ամենայն հավանականությամբ գաղտնալսում են իրենց հետաքրքրող անձանց խոսակցությունները: Ոստիկանությունը կարող է ունենալ 1500-2000 դոլար արժողությամբ բազմաթիվ սարքավորումներ: Յուրաքանչյուր ոստիկանական մեկենա կարող է ունենալ մեկ սարքավորում, և կարելի է կես ժամում քաղաքում շրջել և հեշտությամբ պարզել թե քաղաքական ընդդիմության առաջնորդներից յուրաքանչյուրը որտեղ է գտնվում ամենայն ճշգրտությամբ: Կամ կարելի է մեկ սարքի օգնությամբ պարզել, թե Ազատության հրապարակում ովքեր են հավաքված:

Գոյություն ունեն նաև հեռախոսային հավելվածներ, որոնք բավականին մեծ ճշգրտությամբ տեղեկացնում են, երբ ձեր հեռախոսը գաղտնալսվում է կեղծ աշտարակների կողմից: Ստորև բերված են երկուսը: Սակայն պետք է անպայման հիշել, որ այս հավելվածները չեն կանխում կամ արգելում գաղտնալսումը, նրանք միայն տեղեկացնում են, որ ձեր հեռախոսը գաղտնալսվում է: Այդ դեպքում պետք է հեռախոսը անջատել կամ որոշ ժամանակ չօգտագործել:
