Հայաստանի Հանրապետության Գիտությունների ազգային ակադեմիայի նախագահության նիստերի դահլիճում տեղի ունեցավ նիստ` նվիրված Հայկական հանրագիտարանի հրատարակչության հիմնադրման 50-ամյակին: 

Նիստի ընթացքում ներկայացվեց «Հայկական հանրագիտարանի կես դարը» ֆիլմը: Տեղի ունեցավ «Հանրագիտական բառարան»-ի առաջին հատորի շնորհանդեսը: Հրատարակչության աշխատակիցները պարգևատրվեցին ՀՀ ԳԱԱ պատվոգրերով ու գովասանագրերով: Հոբելյանական նիստին հրավիրված էին ՀՀ բարձրաստիճան պաշտոնյաներ, գիտական ինստիտուտների ղեկավարներ և ԲՈՒՀ-երի ռեկտորներ, քաղաքացիական հասարակության ներկայացուցիչներ:

Լրագրողների հետ զրույցում ՀՀ ԳԱԱ նախագահ Ռադիկ Մարտիրոսյանն ասաց. «Այս միջոցառումը նվիրված է հայկական հանրագիտարանի ստեղծման 50-ամյակին և հանրագիտական բառարանի շնորհանդեսին, որը այդ խմբագրության վերջին նվաճումն է։ Հանրագիտարանը ամեն ժողովրդի դեմքն է` խտացրած տեղեկություններով։ Սա մշակութային կարևոր խնդիր է ու ամեն մի ժողովուրդ ցանկություն ունի այն իրականացնել։ Դրա համար պետք է լինել բարձր որակի մասնագետ, նվիրյալ տարբեր բնագավառներում»: 

ՀՀ ԳԱԱ նախա գահի խոսքով, հանրագիտարանը ստեղծող անձնակազմը այդ խնդիրը փայլուն է կատարել, քանի որ այն հայտնի է ամբողջ աշխարհում և հայ իրականության մեջ։ «Այն աշխատակազմը, որը ստեղծվել է 50 տարի առաջ, հիանալի աշխատանք է կատարել, որովհետև բացի հիմնական հանրագիտարանից, տարիների ընթացքում են նաև նեղ մասնագիտական հրատարակություններ։ Դրանց թվին է պատկանում այն բառարանը, որի շնորհանդեսը եղավ այսօր։ Երկու հատորում տեղակայված են 60.000 տերմիններ, անուններ և այլն, որը ըստ էության նկարագրում է ամբողջ հայոց լեզվի և մեր կյանքի բոլոր բնագավառները»:  

Նոր հանրագիտարանը նախատեսվում է հրատարակել տասը հատորով։ Այդ հարցը կպարզվի վերջնական խմբագրական որոշման ընթացքում։ 
Հայկական Հանրագիտարանի հրատարակչության գլխավոր խմբագիր Հովհաննես Այվազյանն ասաց. «Այս տարիների ընթացքում ստեղծվել է խոշոր կոթողային մի հրատարակություն, որը կոչվում է «Հայկական Սովետական հանրագիտարան»։ Մի հետաքրքիր խոսք կա տարածված՝ «Հանրագիտարանը քաղաքակրթության չափանիշն է»։ Եթե պետությունը ունի հանրագիտարան, ուրեմն քաղաքակրթության ինչ-որ մի աստիճանով բարձր է մյուսներից, որոնք չունեն»:
