ՆԱՏՕ-ի գլխավոր քարտուղար Ենս Սթոլթենբերգը խոստովանել է, որ Եվրոպան հիմա դժվար վիճակում է անվտանգության ոլորտում, բայց հրաժարվել է այս վիճակը բնութագրել որպես սառը պատերազմ։ «Մենք սառը պատերազմի վիճակում չենք։ Մասամբ որովհետեւ մենք չունենք երկու բլոկ, որոնք դիմակայում են իրար․ Վարշավյան պայմանագիրն ու ՆԱՏՕ-ն։ Վարշավյան պայմանագիրն այլեւս գոյություն չունի, չկա նաեւ ԽՍՀՄ-ը։ Սակայն անվտանգության ոլորտում ներկա իրավիճակը ունի մարտահրավերներ, չկա գործընկերություն, որը փորձում էինք հարթել սառը պատերազմից հետո»,- ասել է Սթոլթենբերգը DW–ին տված հարցազրույցում։

«Ես տեսնում եմ ավելի ինքնավստահ Ռուսաստան, որը զգալիորեն ավելացրել է իր ռազմական հզորությունը։ Հենց այս պատճառով էլ ՆԱՏՕ-ն հավաքական անվտանգության ամրապնդման՝ սառը պատերազմից հետո խոշորագույն միջոցառումներ իրականացրեց, տեղակայելով զորքեր Բալթյան երկրներում ու Լեհաստանում։ Մենք եռապատկել ենք ՆԱՏՕ-ի արագ արձագանքման ուժերի թվաքանակը՝ հասցնելով 40 հազար զինծառայողի ու ձեւավորել օպերատիվ ուժերի միավորում»,- նշել է նա։ «Մենք պատրաստ ենք զորքեր տեղակայել շատ կարճ ժամանակում։ Մենք ՆԱՏՕ-ի որեւէ դաշնակցի համար անխուսափելի սպառնալիք չենք տեսնում, բայց տեսնում ենք Ռուսաստան, որը պատրաստ է ռազմական ուժ կիրառել իր հարեւանների՝ Ուկրաինայի ու Վրաստանի դեմ»,- հավելել է նա։

Պատասխանելով այն դիտարկմանը, որ ՆԱՏՕ-ն չկարողացավ զսպել Ռուսաստանին Սիրիայում ու Ղրիմում, Սթոլթենբերգը նշեց․ «Կարեւոր է գտնել ճիշտ հավասարակշռություն հուսալի զսպում ապահովելու ու ռազմական պատասխանի միջեւ, միաժամանակ խուսափելով իրավիճակի լարումից։ Հենց այսպես է ՆԱՏՕ-ն արձագանքում, քանի որ մենք ազդանշաններ ենք հաղորդում մեր ուժի ու միասնականության մասին, բայց միաժամանակ ցույց տալիս, որ ձգտում ենք Ռուսաստանի հետ ավելի կառուցողական հարաբերությունների, քանի որ Ռուսաստանը մեր հարեւանն է»։
