Սեպտեմբերի 21-ի զորահանդեսը լավագույն ապացույցն էր այն հանգամանքի, որ 80-ականների զենք ասելով ի նկատի չենք ունեցել մեր ողջ զինանոցը: Այդ մասին Հանրապետական կուսակցության 16-րդ համագումարից հետո լրագրողների հետ զրույցում նշեց ՀՀ պաշտպանության նախարար Վիգեն Սարգսյանը: «Կարծում եմ՝ 80-ականների զենքերի հիշատակումն արհեստական է, որովհետև բազմաթիվ անգամ առիթ է եղել բացատրելու այդ արտահայտության բովանդակությունն ու էությունը: Իհարկե, մենք ունենք բազմաթիվ զինատեսակներ, որ ժառանգել ենք դեռևս խորհրդային ժամանակաշրջանից, կան զենքեր, որ ներկրվել են հետագայում, և կան բազմաթիվ նոր զինատեսակներ: Սեպտեմբերի 21-ի զորահանդեսը լավագույն ապացույցն էր այն հանգամանքի, որ 80-ականների զենք ասելով մենք ի նկատի չենք ունեցել մեր ողջ զինանոցը»,-  Արմենպրեսի փոխանցմամբ՝ ասաց Սարգսյանը:  

Միաժամանակ, Պաշտպանության նախարարը համոզմունք հայտնեց, որ  սպառազինվելու համար պարտադիր չէ մտնել սպառազինության մրցավազքի մեջ: Նրա խոսքով` 21-րդ դարում սպառազինության տեսականին այնպիսին է, որ կարելի է միշտ ընտրել խելացի ասիմետրիկ պաշտպանության մոտեցումը՝ ընտրելով այն զինատեսակները, որոնք կարող են փոքր ռեսուրսով առավել արդյունավետություն ապահովել: «Դա բնավ չի նշանակում, որ մենք չենք սպառազինվում, այլ նշանակում է, որ հակառակորդի յուրաքանչյուր ձեռք բերված զենքի դեպքում չէ, որ պետք է նույնից, նույն քանակով ունենալ: Ազգ-բանակի գաղափարախոսության տրամաբանական արտացոլումն է նաև ներքին արտադրությունը, որովհետեւ եթե մենք մի երկիր ենք, որն ունի բնակչության համեմատ անհամաչափ մեծ զինված ուժեր, ուրեմն բանակը պետք է սովորի դառնալ տնտեսության համահունչ մաս ու միայն սպառող լինելով երկար շարունակվել չի կարող»,- ասաց Վիգեն Սարգսյանը:
