Այս հոգեբուժարանը երկար տարիներ կառավարում էր Հենրի Քոթոնը, ով հպարտանում էր հիվանդների բուժման իր «նորարարական» մեթոդներով: Նա հավատում էր, որ իր հիվանդների հոգեկան խանգարումներն առաջանում են այնպիսի հիվանդությունների պատճառով, ինչպիսին է օրինակ սիֆիլիսը: Այդ իսկ պատճառով Քոթոնն առաջարկեց ուղղակի հեռացնել մարմնի հեռացված մասերը: Բուժումը սկսվում էր ատամների հեռացմամբ, վերջանում՝ ձվարանների, արգանդի և այլ կարևորագույն օրգանների հեռացմամբ: Քոթոնը վստահեցնում էր, որ այսպես բուժման արդյունավետությունը կբարձրանա 85%-ով, սակայն փաստն այն է, որ այն մարդիկ, ովքեր նրա մոտ բուժման էին գնում, մահանում էին հենց վիրահատական սեղանին:
