Չադ լճի ավազանի շրջանում հումանիտար ճգնաժամը, որը հրահրվել Է «Բոկո հարամ» արմատական խմբավորման գործողություններով, խոշորագույններից մեկն Է դարձել աշխարհում:
 
Այդ մասին հունվարի 12-ին հայտարարել Է ՄԱԿ-ի գլխավոր քարտուղարի՝ հումանիտար հարցերով տեղակալ Սթիվեն Օ՛Բրայենը: Նրա խոսքով՝ սովյալների թիվը տարածաշրջանում, ներառյալ Կամերունը, Նիգերիան, Նիգերը եւ Չադը, տարվա ընթացքում աճել Է ավելի քան կրկնակի եւ հասել 7 միլիոնի: 
 
«Այն, ինչն սկսվել Էր որպես անվտանգության բնագավառի ճգնաժամ, վերածվել Է պարենային լուրջ ճգնաժամի՝ աշխարհում խոշորագույն հումանիտար ճգնաժամերից մեկին: Մեկ տարի առաջ Չադ լճի ավազանի շրջանում պարենի սուր կարիք ուներ 3 մլն մարդ: 
 
Չնայած ՄԱԿ-ի եւ գործընկերների գործադրած ջանքերին, այսօր նրանց թիվը հասնում Է 7,1 միլիոնի»,-զեկուցել Է նա համաշխարհային կազմակերպության Անվտանգության խորհրդի նիստում: 
 
Ինչպես հայտնել Է Օ՛Բրայենը, տարատեսակ հումանիտար օգնություն Է պահանջվում աֆրիկյան չորս երկրների 10,7 մլն բնակիչների, իսկ հարկադիր վերաբնակների թիվը կազմում Է 2,4 միլիոն, որոնցից 1,5 միլիոնը երեխաներ են: Նրա խոսքով՝ 2017 թվականին Չադ լճի ավազանի շրջանում հումանիտար գործողությունների համար կպահանջվի մոտավորապես 1,5 մլրդ դոլար՝ կրկնակի ավելի, քան անցյալ տարի: 
 
Իր հերթին ՄԱԿ-ի գլխավոր քարտուղարի՝ քաղաքական հարցերով օգնական Թայե-Բրուք Զերիհունը Անվտանգության խորհրդի անդամներին տեղեկացրել Է, որ «Բոկո հարամ»-ը, չնայած նրա դեմ իրականացվող ռազմարշավին, առաջվա պես լուրջ սպառնալիք Է ներկայացնում տարածաշրջանային կայունությանը, հաղորդել Է ՏԱՍՍ-ը:
