Էստրոգենն արտադրվում և պահպանվում է ճարպային բջիջներում: Փորձագետների մեծ մասը պնդում է, որ ԱՄՆ-ում և արևմտյան այլ երկրներում վաճառվող կաթնամթերքը պարունակում է մեծ քանակությամբ էստրոգեն և պրոգեստերոն:

Այս տրամաբանությանը հետևելու դեպքում կարելի է վստահաբար ենթադրել, որ ճարպի ցածր պարունակությամբ կաթնամթերքը ավելի քիչ էստրոգեն և պրոգեստերոն է պարունակում, քանի որ դրանք զուրկ են ճարպի մեծ մասից:

 

Այս պատճառով կրծքագեղձի քաղցկեղ ախտորոշմամբ կանանց խորհուրդ է տրվում ավելի քիչ ճարպոտ կաթնամթերք օգտագործել:

Ուսումնասիրությունը ցույց է տվել, որ մասնակիցների դեպքում, որոնք ամեն օր օգտագործել են 1 կամ մի քանի բաժին յուղոտ կաթնամթերք, 64%-ով ավելի մեծ է եղել ցանկացած գործոնից մահանալու հավանականությունը և 49%-ով ավելի մեծ կրծքագեղձի քաղցկեղից մահանալու հավանականությունը նրանց համեմատ, ովքեր օգտագործել են ցածր յուղայնությամբ կաթնամթերք կամ ավելի քիչ կաթնամթերք օրական:

Հետազոտությունը ցույց է տալիս յուղոտ կաթնամթերքի և կրծքագեղձի քաղցկեղից մահվան կապը, սակայն դա չի ապացուցում, որ մեկն անխուսափելիորեն հանգեցնում է մյուսին: Դրանց միջև իրական կապը պարզելու համար անհրաժեշտ են այլ թեստեր, փորձեր և ուսումնասիրություններ:
