Չինաստանի բնակչության թվաքանակը 2020 թվականին կկազմի մոտավորապես 1 մլրդ 420 միլիոն: Ինչպես հայտնել Է «Սինհուա» գործակալությունը, տարեկան միջին աճը կկազմի մոտավորապես 6 տոկոս:
 
«13-րդ հնգամյա պլանի կատարման համար երկրում անհրաժեշտ Է իրագործել «մեկ ընտանիք՝ երկու երեխա» քաղաքականությունը՝ խթանելով աշխատանքը ընտանիքի պլանավորման բնագավառում այսչափ կարեւոր ժամանակաշրջանում»,- ասված Է 13-րդ հնգամյակի (2016-2020 թվականներ) համար ծնելիության ծրագրում:
 
Չինաստանի բնակչության թվաքանակը 2016 թվականի վերջի դրությամբ կկազմել Է 1 մլրդ 382 մլն 271 հազար, ինչն 8 միլիոնով ավելի Է 2015 թվականի ցուցանիշից: Ընդ որում երկրի 16-ից մինչեւ 60 տարեկան աշխատունակ բնակիչների թիվը 2016 թվականի վերջի դրությամբ կազմել Է 907,47 միլիոն՝ ընդհանուր բնակչության 65,6 տոկոսը: 
Չինաստանում վերջին տարիներին բնակչության արագ ծերացման գործընթաց Է դիտվում: Վերջին տվյալները ցույց են տալիս, որ ներկայում ՉԺՀ-ում ապրում Է 60-ից բարձր տարիքի ավելի քան 230 մլն մարդ, ինչը կազմում Է երկրի բնակչության ընդհանուր թվաքանակի 16,7 տոկոսը: 
 
Բնակչության սրընթաց ծերացման խնդիրը իշխանություններին ստիպեց 2013 թվականին վերանայել «մեկ ընտանիք՝ մեկ երեխա» քաղաքականությունը: Ըստ նոր կանոնների, այժմ թույլատրված Է երկրորդ երեխան ունենալ այն ընտանիքներում, որտեղ ամուսիններից մեկը իր ծնողների միակ զավակն Է:
 
Ավելի վաղ երկրորդ երեխայի իրավունք ստանալու համար ամուսինները պետք Է լինեին իրենց ընտանիքների միակ զավակները: 
 
Չինաստանում պահպանվում Է նաեւ գենդերային անհամամասնությունը: Վերջին տվյալների համաձայն, արական սեռի բնակչության թվաքանակը 2016 թվականի վերջի դրությամբ կազմել Է 708,15 միլիոն, իսկ իգական սեռինը՝ 674,56 միլիոն, հաղորդել Է ՏԱՍՍ-ը:
