Ինչպես գիտենք Կոստանդնուպոլիսը եղել է Եվրոպայի ամենահարուստ ու մեծ քաղաքներից մեկը, որն Օսմանյան կայսրության անկումից հետո 1930 թվականին վերանվանվել է Ստամբուլ: Բյուզանդիայի վերջին կայսր Կոնստանտին 11-րդը զոհվեց` հերոսաբար կռվելով քաղաքի պաշտպանների շարքերում:
