Բավականին տարածված է այն կարծրատիպը, որ շիկահերների մեծ մասը հիմար է:

Հիմարիկ շիկահերների կարելի է հանդիպել  հոլիվուդյան շատ ֆիլմերում: Բոլորս էլ հաստատ բազմիցս լսել ենք հումորներ, որոնցում ծաղրի առարկա են շիկահերները՝ իրենց հիմարություններով:

Չնայած այս ամենին՝ ոչ մեկի մտքով այսքան ժամանակ դեռ չի անցել ուսումնասիրել և պարզել՝ արդյո՞ք նրանք իսկապես հիմար են, մինչդեռ այս հարցի պատասխանից շատ բան է կախված: Միգուցե հարցի պատասխանն իմանալուց հետո մարդիկ վերջ տան այս կարծրատիպին՝ հասկանալով, որ իրականությունը բոլորովին այլ է:

Հետազոտություններից պարզ է դարձել, որ շիկահեր սպիտակամորթ կանայք ամենևին էլ հիմար չեն, դեռ մի բան էլ ավելին՝ նրանք նույնիսկ ավելի խելացի են, քան մազերի այլ գույն ունեցողները:

Օհայոյի պետական համալսարանի հետազոտողները որոշեցին անցկանցել փորձ 10,878 կանանց ու տղամարդկանց շրջանում և պարզել՝ արդյո՞ք մտավոր ունակությունները կարող են ինչ-որ կերպ կախված լինել մազերի գույնից:

Հետազոտության արդյունքները ցույց տվեցին, որ շիկահեր կանանց IQ-ն ավելի բարձր է (103.2) շագանակագույն (102. 7), կարմիր (101.2) և սև (100.5) մազերով կանանց IQ-ից:

Հետազոտողները նաև պարզեցին, որ շիկահեր կանանց ավելի շուտ պետք է դասել հանճարների, քան հիմարիկների շարքին:

Օհայոյի համալսարանի գիտնական Ջայ Զագորսկու խոսքերով՝ այս հետազոտությունը երաշխիք է այն բանի, որ շիկահերներն իրենց մտավոր ունակությունների հետ կապված որևէ խտրականության այլևս չենթարկվեն:

Իսկ ինչ վերաբերում է շիկահեր տղամարդկանց, նրանց միջին IQ-ն 103.9 է, ինչը մի փոքր ավելի ցածր է, քան շագանակագույն մազերով տղամարդկանցը (104.4), սակայն ավելի բարձր կարմրահեր (100.5) և սևահեր (100.1) տղամարդկանցից:

Մինչ հիմարիկ շիկահերների մասին հումորները գնալով ավելանում են, գիտնականներն ասում են, որ այս կարծրատիպը կարող է ունենալ տնտեսական հետևանքներ ևս: Զագորսկին գրում է. «Միացյալ նահանգներում այժմ լայնորեն տարածված է այն միֆը, որ շիկահեր կանայք ավելի գեղեցիկ են, բայց պակաս խելացի մազերի այլ գույն ունեցող կանանցից: Այս կարծրատիպը կարող է վնասել շիկահերներին, քանի որ բոլոր գործատուները փնտրում են խելացի աշխատողների»: Հետազոտությունը տպագրվել է «Economics bulletin» ամսագրում:
