Այս բացառիկ լուսանկարներն արվել են լուսանկարիչ Էրիկ Լաֆորգի կողմից, երբ վերջին անգամ այցելել էր Հյուսիսային Կորեա: Այս այցելությունից հետո հետո նրա մուտքն այս փակ երկիր մեկընդմիշտ արգելվեց: Պետությունը պահանջեց ջնջել բոլոր «ավելորդ» նկարները: Բայց Լաֆորգին հաջողվեց պահպանել դրանցից մի քանիսը և հետո հրապարակել:

Լուսանկարիչն իր այս լուսանկարներով փորձեց ցույց տալ, որ Հյուսիսային Կորեայում իրականում աղքատ ու դժբախտ մարդիկ են ապրում, նա փորձել է ցույց տալ այնտեղի մարդկանց իրական կյանքը, ոչ թէ այն, ինչ ցուցադրվում էր:

«Իշխանությունները, ելնելով իրենց շահերից, տանել չէին կարողանում, երբ նմանատիպ լուսանկարներ էի հրապարակում»: Լուսանկարիչը փորձել է բացատրել, որ աղքատությունը բնական երևույթ է և ամեն երկրում էլ կա, սակայն նրանք պնդեցին՝ անհապաղ ջնջել լուսանկարները:

Խոշոր քաղաքներից զատ մարդիկ ծայրահեղ վատ են ապրում, անգամ սննդի փող չունեն, երեխաներն էլ հաճախ ստիպված են ծանր գործեր կատարել: Անգամ զինվորները, որոնք ծառայում են հյուսիսկորեական բանակում, ստիպված էին ազատ ժամանակ սև գործ կատարել ընտանիքը պահելու համար: Հենց այս զինվորներին էլ բացարձակ չի թույլատրվում նկարել` դա էլ արդեն անվտանգության նկատառումներով։

Նրանց անգամ չի կարելի լուսանկարել իրենց հանգստի ժամին, քանի որ դա սխալ կընկալվեր՝ մարդիկ կմտածեին, թե նրանք այդքան էլ լավ չեն ծառայում, ինչպես ամբողջ աշխարհում են կարծում:

Լուսանկարիչներին արգելու էին նկարել նաև հոգնած և անառողջ տեսքով կամ վատ հագնված մարդկանց: Պետական էքսկուրսավարներն այդ դեպքում էլ էին նկատողություն անում Լաֆորգին, երբ նա կադրում որևէ «ոչ իդեալական» կերպար էր ստանում:

44. Совершенно запрещено фотографировать статуи Ким Ир Сена со спины. Это считается очень грубым.
