 Թուրքիայի նախագահ Ռեջեփ Թայիփ Էրդողանը հայտարարել է, որ Եվրախորհրդարանի կողմից ընդունված բանաձևը, որով Եվրամիությանը և Եվրահանձնաժողովին կոչ է արվում դադարեցնել ԵՄ անդամակցության շուրջ Թուրքիայի հետ բանակցությունները, որևէ արժեք չունեն: Ինչպես հաղորդում է «Արմենպրես»-ը՝ վկայակոչելով թուրքական «Հուրիեթ» պարբերականը, այս մասին Էրդողանը խոսել է ինքնաթիռում՝ G-20 գագաթնաժողովին մասնակցելու նպատակով Համբուրգ գնալու ճանապարհին:

Պատասխանելով լրագրողներից մեկի հարցին, թե արդյոք Թուրքիայի նախագահը պատրաստվում է խնդրին անդրադառնալ Գերմանիայի կանցլեր Անգելա Մերկելի հետ հանդիպման ժամանակ՝ Էրդողանն ասել է. «Այս հարցն իմ օրակարգում չկա: Եթե իմ օրակարգում այն ներառեմ, կստացվի, որ կարևորություն եմ տալիս դրան»:

Եվրախորհրդարանը հուլիս ի 6-ին Ստրասբուրգում կայացած լիագումար նստաշրջանում ընդունել է բանաձև Թուրքիայի վերաբերյալ, որը Եվրամիության երկրներին և Եվրահանձնաժողովին կոչ է անում անհապաղ դադարեցնելու Անկարայի հետ բանակցությունները ԵՄ-ին երկրի միանալու շուրջ, եթե վերջինիս իշխանությունները պատշաճ փոփոխություններ չմտցնեն սահմանադրական բարեփոխման մեջ: Բանաձևի օգտին քվեարկել է 477 պատգամավոր, դեմ՝ 64-ը:
