Малышка Кармен Эдвардс из Шотландии была ранена, едва появившись на свет. Врач, который делал кесарево сечение, повредил новорождённую, и теперь она обречена всю жизнь ходить с шрамом от глаза до уха.

Всё это время шло расследование, о котором никто не сообщил Эмме, матери и членам её семьи. Она говорит, что рождение дочери было катастрофой от начала и до самого конца. Во время родов врача замещал его помощник, и он не знал, что у женщины уже отошли воды. Раненой новорождённой пришлось ждать приезда пластического хирурга, который зашил бы ей рану.

Дело получило большой общественный резонанс, потому что акушерские службы Кейтнесса и без того были в центре скандала: роженицам приходилось ехать за 200 километров в Инвернесс, чтобы родить там. Расследование инцидента с Кармен закончилось через год после её рождения.

 

 

Семья Эдвардс пребывает в ярости: за всё время расследования никто из экспертов или детективов не связался с ними. Они подозревают, что некоторые данные были сфабрикованы, поэтому намерены обратиться к помощи адвоката.

 

 

Положительные последствия всё-таки и у этого инцидента есть. Шотландские власти теперь обязуют рожениц читать информацию о кесаревом сечении и рисках, связанных с ним. Также операция не может проводиться без письменного согласия женщины. Они надеются на участие Эммы Эдвардс, которая расскажет о необходимости подобных мер.
