19-րդ դարի վրացի տաղանդավոր ինքնուս նկարիչ-պրիմիտիվիստ Նիկո Փիրոսմանին (Փիրոսմանաշվիլի) համաշխարհային փառք ձեռք բերեց միայն մահից հետո, իսկ կյանքի օրոք հաճախ ստիպված էր նկարներ տալ սննդի դիմաց: Ինքնուրույն պատրաստած ներկերով մոմլաթի, թիթեղի, ստվարաթղթի վրա գեղանկարել է կենդանիներ, Թիֆլիսի դուքանների ցուցանակներ, քաղաքացիների, մանր առևտրականների, գյուղացիների կյանքից պատկերներ, ինչպես և բնանկարներ, նատյուրմորտներ։

Ծնողների մահից հետո մոտ 15 տարի ապրել է Շուլավերում՝ բաքվեցի հայ գործարանատիրոջ այրու՝ Եփրոսինե Քալանթարովայի տանը։ 1870-ական թվականներին Քալանթարովների հետ տեղափոխվել է Թիֆլիս։ Գրել և կարդալ (նաև հայերեն) սովորել է ինքնուրույն, իսկ գեղանկարչություն՝ շրջիկ նկարիչներից։

  

Այս նկարչի անվան հետ շատ գեղեցիկ լեգենդ է կապված այն մասին, որ մի անգամ նա վաճառեց իր ամբողջ ունեցվածքը և գնեց Թբիլիսիի բոլոր վարդերը: Ասում են՝ Նիկոն դա հանուն սիրած կնոջ արեց, ով աշխարհում ամենաշատը ծաղիկներ էր սիրում:

Փիրոսմանիի մուսայի մասին մեր օրեր միայն շշուկներ են հասել: Հայտնի է միայն, որ 1905 թ. թբիլիսյան բոլոր թերթերում ներկայացված էր Փարիզի մանրանկարչության «Բել Վյու» թատրոնի դերասանուհի, պարուհի և երգչուհի Մարգարիտա դե Սևրի սպասվող ելույթը:

Ելույթի օրը Փիրոսմանին վաճառեց իր ամբողջ ունեցվածքը և ստացված գումարով գնեց Թբիլիսիի բոլոր ծաղիկները: Պատմում են, որ Նիկոն Մարգարիտա դե Սևրի տան մոտ վարդերի 9 սայլ էր ուղարկել: Լեգենդի համաձայն՝ երբ դերասանուհին պատուհանից տեսավ ծաղիկների ծովը, դուրս եկավ նկարչի մոտ և նրան թեժ համբույր նվիրեց:

Իսկ պատմաբան-մատենագետները պնդում են, որ այդ երկուսը երբեք անձամբ չէին հանդիպել: Նրանց տվյալներով՝ Փիրոսմանին իսկապես Մարգարիտա դե Սևրին հսկայական քանակությամբ ծաղիկներ էր ուղարկել, բայց դրանից անմիջապես հետո գնաց ընկերների հետ խմելու:
