Ամերիկյան Washington Post պարբերականն անդրադարձել է մայիսի 29-ին Թբիլիսիում ադրբեջանցի ընդդիմադիր լրագրող Աֆղան Մուխտարլիի առևանգման և նրան գաղտնի կերպով Բաքվին փոխանցելու դեպքին՝ քննադատելով Ադրբեջանի նախագահի բռնապետական քաղաքականությունը և դրան միջազգային հանրության ոչ պատճաշ արձագանքը:

Պարբերականը նախ հիշեցրել է, որ մայիսի 29-ի երեկոյան Մուխտարլին անհետացել էր, իսկ մեկ օր անց հայտնվել Բաքվում:

«Պարոն Իլհամ Ալիևը կարողացավ իր ուժային մեթոդները կիրառել նաև մեկ այլ երկրի՝ Վրաստանի սրտում: Ու թեև Եվրոպական խորհրդարանը դատապարտել է նման գործելաոճը, այդ քայլը դեռևս չի արժանացել միջազգային հանրության պատշաճ արձագանքին: ԱՄՆ պետքարտուղարությունն իր կարճ հայտարարության մեջ նշել է, որ անհանգստացած է «զեկուցված առևանգումների մասին լուրերով»: Սա կարող է համոզել պարոն Ալիևին, որ Դոնալդ Թրամփի նախագահության շրջանում ԱՄՆ-ի համար միևնույնն է, երբ խախտվում են մարդու իրավունքները և տապալվում օրենքի գերակայությունը:

Մենք գիտենք, որ բռնապետները սիրում են միմյանց հետ առևտրի մարտավարությունը, սիրում են ճնշել արտերկրյա ոչ կառավարական կազմակերպություններին՝ նախազգուշացնելով, որ «օտարերկրյա գործակալները» թաքնված են յուրաքանչյուր ծառի տակ և այդպիսով խեղդել ազատ խոսքի իրավունքը: Պարոն Ալիևը, հավանաբար, ուսումնասիրել է ընդդմադիրների նկատմամբ խտրական վերաբերմունքի համար Չինաստանի անպատժելիության փորձը: Պարոն Ալիևն այնքան լավ է աշխատում, որ բոլորը գիտեն, որ նա կարող է օրերով բռնապետության վերաբերյալ սեմինարներ անցկացնել»,- գրում է պարբերականը:

Պարբերականը հավելում է, որ այս գործի տհաճ լինելու պատճառներից մեկն էլ Վրաստանի մռայլ դերակատարումն է. «Արդյո՞ք Եվրոպական Միություն և ժողովրդավարության ձգտող երկիրը կապ ունի առևանգման հետ: Վրաստանի իշխանությունները հերքել են իրենց մասնակցությունը և խոստացել են հետաքննություն իրականացնել, սակայն մինչ օրս այդ ուղղությամբ շատ քիչ բան է արվել: Վրաստանը պետք է որքան հնարավոր է արագ մաքրվի այս պատմությունից, իսկ Ադրբեջանն՝ ազատ արձակի Մուխտարլիին: Լավ կլիներ, եթե ավելի շատ կառավարություններ դատապարտեին Ալիևի անընդունելի հնարքները: Դա կարող է զսպել բռնապետների հնարավորությունները»:
