Աշխարհում հոկտեմբերի 10-ին նշում են  հոգեկան առողջության օրը:

«Արմենպրես»-ի հետ զրույցում ՀՀ ԱՆ գլխավոր հոգեբույժ, «Ավան» հոգեկան առողջության կենտրոնի ղեկավար Արեգա Հակոբյանն ասաց, որ Հայաստանում հաշվառված է հոգեկան հիվանդություն ունեցող 52 հազար 129 անձ, որոնցից 19 հազար 736-ը Երեւանից են: «Հոգեկան հիվանդությամբ տառապող անձանց թվով առաջին տեղում Շիրակի մարզն է, որտեղ հաշվառված է 5000 հիվանդ»,-ասաց նա:

Հանրապետության գլխավոր հոգեբույժի խոսքով, Հայաստանում հոգեկան առողջության խանգարման հիմնական պատճառները երեքն են` սթրեսը, գենետիկան եւ սոցիալական պայմանները: «Հոգեկան հիվանդություն ունեցող անձինք պետք է գտնվեն հսկողության տակ, այլապես նրանց մոտ հիվանդությունը սրացման փուլ կմտնի, եւ նրանք կարող են վտանգ հանդիսանալ հանրության համար»,-ասաց նա՝ հավելելով, որ կախված հիվանդության տեսակից , պատճառից եւ ընթացքից, այն կարող է լիովին բուժվել:

Հոգեկան առողջության համաշխարհային օրը նշվում է 1922 թվականից։ Այն հռչակվել է Հոգեկան առողջության համաշխարհային ֆեդերացիայի կողմից՝ Առողջապահության համաշխարհային կազմակերպության աջակցությամբ։ Օրվա հիմնական նպատակն է հասարակության ուշադրությունը հրավիրել հոգեկան առողջության հիմնախնդիրների վրա:
