Աշխարհում ճարպակալումից տառապող երեխաների թիվը 1975 թվականի 11 միլիոնից 2016 թվականին աճել Է մինչեւ 124 միլիոն, այսինքն ավելի քան տասն անգամ: Այդ մասին ասված Է Առողջապահության համաշխարհային կազմակերպության եւ Լոնդոնի Կայսերական քոլեջի զեկուցում, որը հրապարակվել Է հոկտեմբերի 11-ին:

Հետազոտության հեղինակները որպես «լավ նորություն» են նշում այն փաստը, որ «1975-ից մինչեւ 2016 թվականը հինգ եւ ավելի բարձր տարիքի երեխաների շրջանում թերսնումը նվազել Է, իսկ առանձին տարածաշրջաններում դանդաղել Է ճարպակալման աճը»: «Իսկ վատ նորությունն այն Է, որ 20 եւ ավելի բարձր տարիքի մարդկանց, ինչպես նաեւ 5-19 տարեկան երեխաների ու դեռահասների շրջանում ճարպակալման տարածվածությունն աճում Է աշխարհի այլ տարածաշրջաններում»,-նշվում Է զեկույցում:

Ընդգծվում Է, որ «ճարպակալված աղջիկների թիվը 1975 թվականի 5 միլիոնից 2016 թվականին աճել Է մինչեւ 50 միլիոն»: Ավելորդ քաշից տառապող տղաների թիվը նույնպես ավելացել Է՝ 6 միլիոնից մինչեւ 74 միլիոն: Ինչ վերաբերում Է մոլորակի չափահաս բնակչությանը, ապա, փորձագետների բերած տվյալների համաձայն, նրանց շրջանում նույնպես ավելացել Է ճարպակալվածների թիվը:

Չորս տասնամյակում այն 100 միլիոնից հասել Է 671 միլիոնի: 2016 թվականին ճարպակալման առավել բարձր մակարդակ Է դիտվել Պոլինեզիայում եւ Միկրոնեզիայում (աղջիկների 25,4 տոկոսը եւ տղաների 22,4 տոկոսը):

Հաջորդ տեղերում անգլալեզու երկրներն են՝ բնակչության մեկ շնչին ընկնող բարձր եկամուտներով, ներառյալ ԱՄՆ-ը, Կանադան, Ավստրալիան, Նոր Զելանդիան, Իռլանդիան եւ Մեծ Բրիտանիան: Փորձագետներն ընդգծում են, որ, իրենց կանխատեսումների համաձայն, 2022 թվականին ճարպակալված երեխաների ու դեռահասների թիվն աշխարհում կգերազանցի թերսնումից տառապող իրենց հասակակիցների թվաքանակը: 2016 թվականին աշխարհում կային 75 մլն աղջիկներ եւ 117 մլն տղաներ իրենց տարիքի համար անբավարար քաշով, հաղորդել Է ՏԱՍՍ-ը:
