Հայկական կողմին Թուրքիայի հետ հարաբերությունների կարգավորման համար անհրաժեշտ կլինի համբերատարություն դրսեւորել: Այս մասին, Վաշինգտոնում անցած քննարկման ընթացքում նշել է ԱՄՆ-ում թուրքական SETA հիմնադրամի հետազոտությունների ղեկավար Քիլիք Քանաթը՝ անդրադառնալով 2009-ին ԱՄՆ-ի նախագահ Օբամայի վարչակազմի կողմից նախաձեռնած հայ-թուրքական մերձեցման նախաձեռնության ձախողմանը, հաղորդում է «Ամերիկայի ձայնը»: 

«Այն դեպքում հայկական կողմը մաքսիմալիստական մոտեցում ուներ՝ փորձելով բոլոր հարցերը լուծել մեկ հայտարարության ստորագրմամբ, որը չհաջողվեց եւ ողջ գործընթացը ձախողվեց»,-նշել է նա:

Թուրք վերլուծաբանի խոսքով, ԱՄՆ-ի նոր վարչակազմը կարող է հայ-թուրքական մերձեցման նոր նախաձեռնություն առաջարկել միայն եթե կողմերի միջեւ լինի վստահության մթնոլորտ: Միեւնույն ժամանակ, Քիլիք Քանաթն ավելացնում է, որ այսօր նման մթնոլորտ չկա նույնիսկ Անկարայի եւ Վաշինգտոնի միջեւ: ԱՄՆ-ի եւ Թուրքիայի ղեկավարները հանդիպում են, բանակցում, սակայն դրա արդյունքում որեւէ առաջընթաց չի գրանցվում, նշում է վերլուծաբանը: Ավելին, Թուրքիայում աճում են Ամերիկայի դեմ բացասական տրամադրությունները. «Այդ հակաամերիկյան տրամադրություններն ուղղված են տարածաշրջանում ԱՄՆ-ի գործողությունների, իսկ որոշ դեպքերում՝ անգործության դեմ»:

Հիշեցնենք, որ 2009 թվականին Ցյուրիխում ստորագրված հայ-թուրքական արձանագրությունները կյանքի չկոչվեցին, քանի որ Թուրքիան փորձում էր նախապայմաններ դրել, իսկ պաշտոնական Երեւանը, ինչպես նաեւ միջազգային հանրությունը պնդում էին, որ արձանագրությունները պետք է իրականացվեն առանց նախապայմանների: Ի վերջո, ՀՀ նախագահ Սերժ Սարգսյանն առկախեց այդ արձանագրությունները:
