ՄԱԿ-ում ԱՄՆ նախկին դեսպան Սամանթա Փաուերը միացել է «Ավրորա» մրցանակի Ընտրող հանձնաժողովին: Դեսպան Փաուերը Ընտրող հանձնաժողովի մյուս անդամների հետ, որոնք հեղինակավոր հումանիտար գործիչներ են, մարդու իրավունքների պաշտպաններ եւ պետությունների նախկին ղեկավարներ, ընտրելու է 1 միլիոն դոլարի «Ավրորա» ամենամյա մրցանակի դափնեկիրներին:

«Հաշվի առնելով մարդու իրավունքների ոլորտում նրա բացառիկ փորձն ամբողջ աշխարհում՝ մենք հպարտ ենք, որ նա ուսումնասիրելու է «Ավրորա» մրցանակի թեկնածությունները եւ օգնելու է ուրվագծել «Ավրորա» մրցանակի ապագան», - ասաց «Ավրորա» մարդասիրական նախաձեռնության համահիմնադիր Նուբար Աֆեյանը:

Դեսպան Սամանթա Փաուերը եղել է ՄԱԿ-ում ԱՄՆ 28-րդ մշտական ներկայացուցիչը։ Որպես Նախագահ Օբամայի վարչակազմի անդամ՝ նա արտաքին քաղաքականության ոլորտում երկրի ամենահայտնի մասնագետներից մեկն է դարձել:

Փաուերը հեղինակել է «Խնդիր դժոխքից. Ամերիկան եւ ցեղասպանության դարաշրջանը» գիրքը, որն արժանացել է Պուլիցերյան մրցանակի: Հաշվի առնելով մարդու իրավունքների եւ ժողովրդավարության բնագավառում նրա ազդեցիկ գործունեությունը՝ նա բազմիցս ճանաչման է արժանացել` ընդգրկվելով TIME ամսագրի «100 ամենազդեցիկ մարդիկ» եւ Foreign Policy ամսագրի «Աշխարհի 100 մտածողներ» անվանակարգերում:

«Ավրորա» մրցանակը, որն ստեղծվել է Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը վերապրածների անունից՝ ի երախտագիտություն նրանց փրկողների, շնորհվելու է երրորդ անգամ: 2018թ. «Ավրորա» մրցանակի հավակնորդների անունները հայտնի կդառնան 2018թ. ապրիլի 24-ին՝ Հայոց ցեղասպանության նահատակների հիշատակի օրը:
