Միլիոնավոր տարիները անճանաչելիորեն փոխել են մեր մոլորակը բոլոր մակարդակներով: Անհավանական է, սակայն մեր մոլորակում բնակվել են այնպիսի կենդանիներ, որոնք նույնիսկ վառ երևակայության դեպքում դժվար է պատկերացնել: 

Դինոզավրերը ցամաքային ողնաշարավոր կենդանիներ են, որոնք գերիշխել են Երկիր մոլորակի վրա մեզոզոյան դարաշրջանում մոտ 160.000.000 տարի՝ սկսած տրիասյան շրջանի վերջից մինչև կավճի շրջանի ավարտը, երբ նրանց մեծագույն մասը ոչնչացավ։ Դինոզավրերի բրածոները հայտնաբերված են բոլոր մայրցամաքներում։ Ներկայումս հնէաբանների կողմից նկարագրված է դինոզավրերի 500 ցեղ և 1000 տեսակ, որոնք բաժանվում են երկու խմբի՝ թռչնանմաններ և սողունանմաններ։  Հնարավոր է, որ նրանց մաշկային ծածկույթը եղել է կոշտ, չոր և անջրաթափանց, իսկ ձվերի կճեպը եղել է այնպիսին, ինչպիսին ժամանակակից սողուններինը:
