ՀՀ երկրորդ նախագահ Ռոբերտ Քոչարյանը հարցազրույց է տվել «Россия 24» հեռուստաալիքին: Լրագրող Նիկոլայ Սվանիձեի հեղինակային հաղորդման շրջանակներում խոսք է գնացել Քոչարյանի հրատարակած ինքնակենսագրական գրքի մասին, որտեղ խոսվում է նաև Խորհրդային Միության փլուզման շրջանի մասին:

Սվանիձեն նախ հարց է հղել նախկին նախագահին, թե արդյոք իր կարծիքով Հայաստանն այդ շրջանում իրապես ձգտում էր անկախության, թե՞ այդ ամենը ինքնաբերաբար ստացվեց, ինչին ի պատասխան Քոչարյանը նկատել է, որ ՀՀ անկախությունը խորապես կապված էր Արցախի հիմնախնդրի հետ:

«Այդ ամենը տեղի էր ունենում Արցախյան շարժման համատեքստում, սակայն այդ շարժման առաջնորդներն, այնուամենայնիվ, մտածում էին Հայաստանի անկախության մասին: Նրանց մի մասը լրջորեն հանդիսանում էր Հայաստանի անկախության կողմնակից: Ես հանդիսանում էի Արցախում եղած շարժման առաջնորդ, մոտեցումը ԽՍՀՄ-ին Արցախում բոլորովին այլ էր: Մենք տեսնում էինք մեր խնդրի լուծումը հենց ԽՍՀՄ շրջանակներում: Մենք այնպես հավատացինք վերակառուցման գաղափարին, որ թվում էր, թե դա հնարավորություն է լուծել սեփական խնդիրները, և մենք վստահ էինք, որ դրանք կլուծի հենց Մոսկվան: 

Ըստ Քոչարյանի՝ ԽՍՀՄ փլուզումն ու, մասնավորապես, Հայաստանի անջատումը միությունից անխուսափելի դարձան թե՛ օբյեկտիվ, թե՛ մասնավոր պատճառներով, քանի որ ընդհանուր գաղափարախոսությունն այլևս խախտված էր, և մարդիկ այլևս չէին հավատում բոլոր այդ երկրները միավորող գաղափարախոսությանը, իսկ քաղաքական վերնախավը չուներ այլ գրավիչ գաղափարներ, որոնք կարող էին հրամցնել հասարակությանը, ինչպես նաև անհրաժեշտ կամք՝ պետության պառակտումը կանխելու:

ՀՀ երկրորդ նախագահը նաև ի պատասխան լրագրողի՝ ԽՍՀՄ կազմում տարբեր ժողովուրդների միջև ներքին հարաբերությունների մասին հարցին, շեշտել է, որ Արցախի հակամարտությունը նաև վառ օրինակն է այն բանի, որ ամեն ինչ իրականում այդքան էլ հարթ չէր, որքան ներկայացվել է տարիներ շարունակ:

«Այն, ինչ պատահեց մեզ մոտ, վառ ապացույցն է նրա, որ ամեն բան այդքան էլ լավ չէր: Երբ ինձ ասում են, որ ԽՍՀՄ փլուզումը սկսեց Ղարաբաղից՝, ասում եմ՝ ո՛չ, Ղարաբաղից չսկսեց: Այն փլուզվեց բոլորովին այլ պատճառներով: Ուղղակի այդ ամենն իր մասին զգացնել տվեց այն կետերում, որտեղ լարվածությունն առավել ուժեղ է եղել», - նշել է Ռոբերտ Քոչարյանը:
