ԱՄՆ-ի նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփը պետք է ավելի շատ համբերություն ցուցաբերի Հյուսիսային Կորեայի հետ եւ չմասնակցի երկրի առաջնորդ Կիմ Չեն Ընի հետ հանդիպմանն առանց համաձայնագրի առկայության: Այդ մասին հայտարարել է ՄԱԿ-ում ԱՄՆ-ի նախկին մշտական ներկայացուցիչ Բիլ Ռիչարդսոնը, հաղորդում է The Hill-ը:

«Նա երբեմն շատ անհամբեր է, եւ նրան դուր են գալիս բարձր մակարդակի հանդիպումները մեծաքանակ լրագրողների ներկայությամբ»,-համարում է դիվանագետը: «Նա պետք է պարզապես թույլ տա իր մարդկանց ստիպել հյուսիսկորեացիներին որոշ զիջումների գնալ եւս մեկ գագաթնաժողով անցկացնելու համար»:

Նրա խոսքերով՝ նախքան հնարավոր գագաթնաժողովը պետք է որոշակի համաձայնության գալ: «Դա տեղի չի ունեցել Վիետնամում, իսկ դրա արդյունքը աղետալի էր, քանի որ երկու կողմերը հեռացել էին ձեռնունայն»:

Ռիչարդսոնը, որը զբաղեցնում էր նաեւ ԱՄՆ-ի էներգետիկայի նախարարի պաշտոնը Բիլ Քլինթոնի օրոք, համարում է, որ խելամիտ կոմպրոմիսը պետք է ներառի «որոշ չափով ապամիջուկայնացում եւ հրթիռների որոշակի սահմանափակումներ պատժամիջոցների որոշ չափով թուլացման փոխարեն»:

Կիմ Չեն Ընը եւ Դոնալդ Թրամփը հանդիպել էին Հանոյում փետրվարին: Սակայն համաձայնության գալ չէր հաջողվել: Թրամփը լքել էր գագաթնաժողովը նախատեսվածից շուտ: Հյուսիսկորեական պետական ԶԼՄ-ներն այդ շաբաթ հաղորդել էին, որ Կիմ Չեն Ընը հետեւում էր նոր տիպի տակտիկական կառավարվող զենքի փորձարկումներին: Պաշտպանության նախարարի պաշտոնակատար Պատրիկ Շանահանը հաստատել էր, որ փորձարկվել էր զենք, սակայն դա բալիստիկ հրթիռ չէր:
