Անգլերեն լեզվի Օքսֆորդյան բառարանը կազմողները 2014 թվականի բառ են ընտրել «vape»-ը, որը նշանակում է «ծխել Էլեկտրոնային սիգարետ»: Այդ մասին, ինչպես տեղեկացնում է «Արմենպրես»-ը, հաղորդվում է Օքսֆորդյան բառարանի բլոգում:
«Vape»-ը սահմանվում Է որպես «ներշնչել և արտաշնչել էլեկտրոնային սիգարետի կամ համանման սարքի կողմից արտադրվող գոլորշին»: «Vape» բառը նաև կարող է օգտագործվել որպես գոյական. դրանով կարելի է նշել ծխելու բուն գործընթացը, և սարքն ինքը:
«Vape»-ը տարվա բառ դարձնելու որոշումը բառարանի խմբագրությունը բացատրել Է Էլեկտրոնային սիգարետների աճող ժողովրդականությամբ եւ, համապատասխանաբար, դրանց հետ կապված բառապաշարի օգտագործման մեծացող հաճախականությամբ: Անգլալեզու աշխարհում «vape» բառն անցած տարվա համեմատությամբ սկսել են ավելի քան երկու անգամ ավելի հաճախ գործածել:
Այդ բառի գործածման բարձրակետը եղել է 2014 թվականի ապրիլին, երբ Մեծ Բրիտանիայում էլեկտրոնային սիգարետներ ծխողների համար բացվեց առաջին սրճարանը, իսկ Նյու Յորքում բողոքի գործողություններ անցկացվեցին ի պատասխան հարկաբաժիններում Էլեկտրոնային սիգարետների օգտագործման արգելքի: Նույն այդ ամսին թեման լայնորեն քննարկվել է անգլալեզու լրատվամիջոցներում, այդ թվում՝ The Washington Post-ում, BBC-ում և The Daily Telegraph-ում:
Օքսֆորդյան բառարանը կազմողների վարկածով՝ տարվա բառ կոչման հավակնորդների թվում եղել են նաեւ normcore-ը (միտում նորաձեւության մեջ, որը դրսեւորվում Է առավելագույնս սովորական տեսք ունենալու ձգտման մեջ), bae-ն (գոյական, որն օգտագործվում է իր զուգընկերոջ նկատմամբ քնքուշ զգացմունքներ արտահայտելու համար), slacktivism-ը (slack՝ «անգործություն» բառից, նկատի է առնվում մասնակցությունը քաղաքական կամ սոցիալական թեմայով ինտերնետ-ակցիաներին, ինչը չի պահանջում ժամանակ կամ զգալի ներգրավվածություն, որպես օրինակ բերվում Է առցանց հանրագրերի ստորագրումը):
Անցյալ տարի Օքսֆորդյան բառարանի կազմողները տարվա բառ էին ճանաչել «սելֆին»՝ ինքն իրեն լուսանկարելը, հաղորդել է «Ինտերֆաքս»-ը:
