Հյուսիսային Կորեան պատրաստ է Միացյալ Նահանգների հետ երկխոսությանը, սակայն քանի դեռ պատժամիջոցային ճնշումը պահպանվում է, Վաշինգտոնի համար Փհենյանը կշարունակի մնալ գլխավոր սպառնալիք: Այս մասին նշված է Հյուսիսային Կորեայի ԱԳ նախարար Լի Յոն Հոյի հայտարարության մեջ, հայտնում է Կորեական կենտրոնական հեռագրական գործակալությունը:

«Մենք պատրաստ ենք երկխոսության, բայց նաեւ դիմակայության: Մեծ սխալ կլինի, եթե ԱՄՆ-ն փորձի մեզ հակազդել պատժամիջոցներով, ընդ որում՝ չհրաժարվելով առճակատման իր դիրքորոշումից: Այդ դեպքում մենք ԱՄՆ-ի համար կմնանք գլխավոր սպառնալիք»,- նշել է նախարարը:

Նա քննադատել է ԱՄՆ պետքարտուղար Մայք Պոմպեոյին, որը վերջին հարցազրույցներից մեկում հույս էր հայտնել, որ հյուսիսային Կորեան նախկինի պես հավատարիմ է ապամիջուկայնացմանը: Հակառակ դեպքում, պետքարտուղարի խոսքով, Վաշինգտոնը կպահպանի պատմության մեջ ամենախիստ պատժամիջոցները:

Լի Յոն Հոն ԱՄՆ պետքարտուղարին քննադատել է Փհենյանի դեմ պատժամիջոցների մասին ասածի համար եւ նրան անվանել ամերիկացի դիվանագետների շարքում «թունավոր բույս»: «Եթե Պոմպեոն փաստերը խեղաթյուրում է եւ վերականգնում հին պատժամիջոցները, ակնհայտ է դառնում, որ նա ռացիոնալ մտածողություն չունի: Նա չարամիտ է, որը մռայլ ստվեր է նետում բանակցային ճանապարհի վրա»,- կարծում հյուսիսկորեացի նախարարը:

Նա հայտարարել է, որ ԱՄՆ-ն է Կորեական թերակղզում միջուկային խնդրի նախաձեռնողը եւ չի նպաստում դրա լուծմանը: «Վաշինգտոնն իրադրությունը բարդացնում է՝ Կորեական թերակղզում եւ դրա շուրջ մշտապես զորավարժություններ անցկացնելով»,- հավելել է նախարարը:

ԼԻ Յոն Հոն իր հայտարարության մեջ Պոմպեոյին քննադատում է օգոստոսի 21-ին Washington Examiner պարբերականին տված հարցազրույցի համար, որի ժամանակ նա հայտարարել էր, թե ԱՄՆ-ն կպահպանի պատմության մեջ ամենախիստ պատժամիջոցները, եթե Հյուսիսային Կորեան հավատարիմ չլինի ապամիջուկայնացման ուղղությանը:
