ԱՄՆ նախկին փոխնախագահ Ջո Բայդենը Հայաստանի Անկախության օրվա առթիվ հայտարարությամբ է հանդես եկել։

«28 տարի առաջ Հայաստանի ժողովուրդն իր ձեռքը վերցրեց ապագան եւ վերականգնեց իր անկախությունը ԽՍՀՄ-ից։ Այսօր այն օրն է, երբ նշվում է Հայաստանի ժողովրդավարական առաջընթացը եւ պատվի է արժանանում նրա պատմությունը։ Այդ պատմությունը ավարտված չի լինի, եթե մենք մեկընդմիշտ չճանաչենք Մեծ եղեռնը՝ Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը»,- նշել է Բայդենը։

«Ես սատարում եմ հայ ժողովրդին եւ ամերիկյան հայ համայնքին, որը այդքան շատ բան է արել մեր ազգի համար՝ հիշելով ցեղասպանության զոհերի մասին։ Սենատում իմ աշխատանքի ժամանակներում ես հպարտորեն էի գլխավորում այն ջանքերը, որ ներդրվում էին Ցեղասպանության ճանաչման համար, եւ այսօր էլ հպարտանում եմ նրանով, որ աջակցում եմ Ներկայացուցիչների պալատի եւ Սենատի քննարկմանը ներկայացված բանաձեւերը, որպեսզի պաշտոնապես ճանաչեն եւ Հայոց ցեղասպանության հիշատակի մշտական օր ընդունեն ԱՄՆ-ում։ Վաղուց ժամանակն է, որ ԱՄՆ-ը սատարի այս կարեւոր օրենսդրական նախաձեռնությունը»։
