ՀՀ վարչապետն ընդգծում է, որ Հայաստանն այնպես չի ընկալում իրավիճակը, որ պետք է ընտրություն կատարի Եվրոպայի և Ռուսաստանի միջև: ՀՀ վարչապետի խոսքով՝ Ռուսաստանը եվրոպական քաղաքակրթության անբաժանելի մասն է և ինքնին օրինակ, թե ինչպես Արևելքն ու Արևմուտքը կարող են ներդաշնակորեն գոյակցել: Այս մասին վարչապետ Փաշինյանն  ասել է «Կոմերսանտ» թերթին տված հարցազրույցում:

«Հայաստանն այնպես չի ընկալում իրավիճակը, որ մենք պետք է ընտրություն կատարենք Եվրոպայի և Ռուսաստանի միջև: XVIII դարում հայկական էլիտայի ներկայացուցիչները փորձում էին այնպես անել, որպեսզի Ռուսաստանը գա մեր տարածաշրջան: Ինչո՞ւ էր դա տեղի ունենում: Քանի որ այն ժամանակ հայկական վերնախավի ներկայացուցիչներն ընկալում էին իրավիճակն այնպես, որ Ռուսաստանը կգա մեր տարածաշրջան և իր հետ կբերի եվրոպական արժեքներ: Մեզ համար Ռուսաստանը եվրոպական երկիր է: Հայաստանը նույնպես եվրոպական երկիր է, Բելառուսը նույնպես եվրոպական երկիր է: Մեզ համար Ռուսաստանը եվրոպական քաղաքակրթության անբաժանելի մասն է: Սա ոչ միայն մեր ժամանակակից ընկալումն է, այլև մեր պատմական ընկալումը: Իսրայել Օրին, որը հայտնի է որպես Հարավային Կովկաս Ռուսաստանի մուտքի նախաձեռնող, իր առաքելությունն սկսեց Եվրոպայից: Փորձեց եվրոպական զորքեր բերել Հայաստան, որպեսզի նրանք ազատագրեն մեր շրջանը թուրքերից և պարսիկներից: Նա նախ գնաց Գերմանիա (Պֆալց), ապա Ավստրո-Հունգարիա: Ու Սրբազան Հռոմեական կայսրության կայսր Լեոպոլդ Առաջինը (ում գահը Վիեննայում էր, քանզի այն ժամանակ կայսրության կազմում էին և Ավստրիան, և Հունգարիան) խորհուրդ տվեց նրան դիմել ռուսական ցար Պետրոս Առաջինին։ Եվրոպական միապետները հայերին խորհուրդ տվեցին կապ հաստատել Եվրոպայի հետ Ռուսաստանի միջոցով: Այսինքն, Ռուսաստանը եկավ մեր տարածաշրջան որպես եվրոպական ուժ: Ռուսական մշակույթն ու քաղաքակրթությունը եվրոպական քաղաքակրթության անբաժանելի մասն են: Ճիշտ է, Ռուսաստանը նաև եվրասիական քաղաքակրթության մաս է: Ռուսաստանն ինքնին օրինակ է, թե ինչպես Արևելքն ու Արևմուտքը կարող են ներդաշնակորեն գոյակցել»,- ասել է Փաշինյանը:

Դիտարկմանը, թե  այսօր մենք տեսնում ենք՝ ինչպես են հակամարտում այս երկու բևեռները՝ Ռուսաստանը և Արևմուտքը, այդ թվում՝ նախկին ԽՍՀՄ-ի տարածաշրջանում, Փաշինյանը պատասխանել է.

 

«Եվրոպական շատ առաջնորդներ ասում են, որ Ռուսաստանի հետ նորմալ հարաբերությունների հաստատումը նրանց համար առաջնային է: Նրանք դա ասում են ինձ պաշտոնական զրույցների ընթացքում: Բայց մեզ համար չկա ընտրություն՝ Արևելք կամ Արևմուտք: Մենք ԵԱՏՄ անդամ ենք և ունենք համաձայնագիր ԵՄ-ի հետ համապարփակ և ընդլայնված գործընկերության վերաբերյալ: Ռուսաստանը դեմ չէ ԵՄ-ի հետ մեր համագործակցությանը, և ԵՄ-ն դեմ չէ ԵԱՏՄ-ին մեր անդամակցությանը»,- ընդգծել է ՀՀ վարչապետը:
