Գաղտնիք չէ, որ գիշերը սնվելը այդքան էլ լավ չի ազդում օրգանիզմի առողջության վրա: 2015-ին գիտնականները ցույց տվեցին, թե ինչպես է ուշ սնունդն ազդում ուղեղի աշխատանքի վրա: Դա պարզելու համար նյարդաբան Քրիստոֆեր Քոլվելը՝ Կալիֆորնիայի համալսարանի իր գործընկերների հետ միասին, օգտագործել է լաբորատոր մկներին, որոնք ապրում էին իրենց համար սովորական ռեժիմով, այսինքն, գիշերներն ակտիվ էին, իսկ ցերեկը քնում էին: Այս խմբից որոշ կենդանիների գիտնականները սկսել են ցերեկը կերակրել, այսինքն՝ այն ժամանակ, երբ դրանք պետք է քնեն, հայտնում է Nat-geo-ն:

Օրվա սխալ ժամին սնվող մկներն արագորեն սովորել են արթնանալ ցերեկը՝ ուտելու համար: Նրանց քնի ժամը շեղվել էր, սակայն նրանք քնում էին այնքան, որքան եւ մյուս մկները, ինչպես նաեւ ուտում եւ կշռում էին նույնքան, որքան մյուս խմբի մկները:

Այնուհետեւ գիտնականներն ուսումնասիրել են մկների հիշողությունը: Մի փորձարկման մեջ նրանք մկներով տուփի մեջ երկու տարբեր առարկաներ են դրել, որպեսզի կենդանիներն ուսումնասիրեն նոր իրերը: Որոշ ժամանակ անց գիտնականները կրկին կենդանիներին վանդակների մեջ են դրել երկու իրերի հետ միասին, սակայն այժմ իրերից մեկն արդեն ծանոթ էր կենդանիներին, իսկ մյուսը՝ ոչ:
Հետազոտության հեղինակները հետեւում էին, թե որքան երկար են մկները հոտոտում առարկաները: Փորձարկման արդյունքում պարզվել է, որ շեղված օրակարգով մկների մոտ հիշողությունը զգալիորեն վատթարացել է: Այս կենդանիներն ավելի շատ ժամանակ են ծախսել՝ արդեն ծանոթ օբյեկտն ուսումնասիրելու համար, կարծես թե դրանք չէին հիշում, որ ավելի վաղ հոտոտել են այդ առարկան:
Երկրորդ փորձարկման մեջ գիտնականները որոշել են վախեցնել կենդանիներին, իսկ որոշ ժամանակ անց կրկին նրանց տեղադրել են նույն տեղում, որտեղ կենդանիները վախ էին զգացել: Ինչպես պարզվել է, սխալ սննդակարգով մկներն ավելի քիչ վախ են զգացել, քանի որ, հավանաբար, չեն հիշել, թե ինչ էր պատահել իրենց հետ այդ վայրում:
