Ապացուցվել է սթրեսի եւ սպիտակ մազերի միջեւ կապը, հաղորդում է Popmech-ը:

Սակայն մինչ օրս այդ կապի իրական ապացույցներ չեն եղել: Հարվարդի համալսարանի գիտանականները կարողացել են բացատրել այդ կապը:

Մազերի ֆոլիկուլների զարգացումը տեղի է ունենում 3 փուլով՝ անագեն՝ աճի շրջան, կատագեն՝ ռեգրեսիայի շրջան, եւ տելոգեն՝ հանգստի շրջան: Աճի փուլն ակտիվացնում է ցողունային բջիջների 2 տեսակ, որոնցից մեկն անվանում են մազի ֆոլիկուլների ցողունային բջիջներ կամ HFSCs, մյուսը՝ մելանոցիտների ցողունային բջիջներ կամ MeSCs: HFSCs-ի ակտիվացումը հանգեցնում է մազի ֆոլիկուլների ձեւավորմանը: MeSCs-ի ակտիվացումն արտադրում է ամբողջությամբ ձեւավորված մելանոցիտներ, որոնք «գաղթում են» մազի ֆոլիկուլի հիմք եւ արտադրում մելանին, որն էլ ներկում է դրանք: Երբ մելանոցիտները մահանում են եւ դեգեներացվում, ցիկլը կրկնվում է բջիջների նոր «բանակով»:

Երբ հետազոտողները առնետների մոտ սթրես են առաջացրել, հետեւել են «հարվածիր կամ փախիր» ռեակցիային, որը մեծացրել է նորադրենալինի արտադրումը: Այն գործում է ակտիվության եւ ուշադրության բարձրացման համար եւ կապվում է MeSCs մակերեսի հետ: Այդ սթրես-էֆեկտն արագացրել է MeSCs-ի աճը:

Ցիկլի ավարտից հետո  մնացած MeSCs-ի քանակը նվազել է: Հետաքրքիր է, որ նման նվազում է տեղի ունենում տարիքի հետ:
