Սահարայի սողացող ավազները բազում անգամներ դարձել են մարդկանց, կենդանիների և անգամ քաղաքների վերացման պատճառ։ Սահարան աշխարհի ամենամեծ անապատն է, և այնտեղ մոլորված ցանկացած մարդ, ամենայն հավանականությամբ, այլևս ետ չի վերադառնա։ Պատմությանը հայտնի են դեպքեր, երբ Սահարան հսկայական բանակների մահվան պատճառ է դարձել։

Անհետացած ամրոցներ

Արբանյակների օգնությամբ գիտնականները կարողանում են ուսումնասիրել ինչպես ջունգլիների, այնպես էլ անապատների ամենաանհասանելի տեղանքները։ 2010 թվականին արբանյակները հայտնաբերեցին ավելի քան 100 ամրոցների մնացորդներ, որոնք պատկանել էին Լիբիայի հարամանտներ ազգությանը։ Այս հատվածը քարտեզի վրա էր հայտնվել նավթային կազմակերպության աշխատակիցների շնորհիվ, ովքեր այդ տեղանքում նավթ էին փնտրել։ 

Հետագայում հետազոտողները հաստատեցին, որ շինությունների հեղինակները հարամանտներն են, սակայն հետազոտությունները դադարեցվեցին լիբիական հեղափոխության պատճառով։

Երկնաքարեր

Երկիրը միշտ էլ երկնաքարերի ռմբակոծության զոհ է եղել։ Երկնաքարերի մեծ մասն այրվում է մթնոլորտում, մի մասն էլ հասնում է Երկիր և թողնում կործանարար հետքեր։ Քանի որ նման ռմբակոծությունների մեծ մասը տեղի է ունեցել անցյալում, ապա նրանց թողած հետքերը մնում են աննկատ և ենթարկվում են էրոզիայի կամ ծածկվում են բույսերով։ Սակայն անապատում այսպիսի սպիները դեռևս տեսանելի են։ Եգիպտոսի հարավում գտնվող Կամիլ 45 մետրանոց խառնարանը ցույց է տալիս այն հատվածը, որտեղ 5000 տարի առաջ երկաթյա երկնաքար է ընկել։
